Netflix's 'Tiger King' Prompts Sheriff To Seek Tips In Cold Case
the questions that have resurfaced surrounding Lewis' disappearance in the docuseries prompted Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister to revive the cold case. He posted a notice Monday seeking tips. During a news conference Tuesday, Chronister said he's gotten about a half dozen calls on the case, none of which appear legitimate. "What we're hoping is maybe someone has had a change of heart, maybe a relationship status has changed," Chronister said. "Anything that will prompt someone to call with a legitimate lead, a piece of evidence." https://patch.com/florida/carrollwoo...tips-cold-case

Tiger King': 'Doc' Antle and Jeff Lowe speak out against docuseries
Bhagavan "Doc" Antle doesn't think people should take "Tiger King" very seriously. The founder of The Institute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.) appears in the hit Netflix docuseries and has not been happy about his portrayal. He told The Media Exchange that it's "not a documentary." "This is a salacious, outrageous ride through a television show produced to create drama, to just tie you in to some crazy train wreck of a story between the feud of Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic and the meltdown that ensued between two people who both are far too close to murder themselves, and I think a little bit of madness thrown in on their parts," Antle said in a video interview.... ...Antle said he didn't expect the docuseries to become as popular as it has. "I never thought it could get to this level," he said. "I guess in some ways because so many people are trapped on their couch (because of the pandemic) and this train wreck of an adventure into magical wildlife land has somehow just caught everybody's attention." Antle is not the only one who doesn't love how they were portrayed on screen... ...Baskin has been displeased with all the conversation regarding the disappearance of her husband, Don Lewis, and recently posted a 3,000-word blog titled "Refuting Netflix Tiger King" on her website. "Tiger King's" co-directors and writers, Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, responded to Baskin in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. Chaiklin said they "were completely forthright with the characters." "With any project that goes on for five years, things evolve and change, and we followed it as any good storyteller does," she said. "We could have never known when we started this project that it was going to land where it did." Goode said Baskin "talked about her personal life, her childhood, abuse from her first and second husband, the disappearance of her ex, Don Lewis." "She knew that this was not just about ... it's not a 'Blackfish' because of the things she spoke about," Goode said. "She certainly wasn't coerced." Jeff and Lauren Lowe currently run Maldonado-Passage's zoo and told The Media Exchange in a separate interview that they were unhappy as well. "They touched on about 10 percent of the story and, you know, the portrayal of us stealing the zoo from Joe was very unfair because we came here to help him, we got it back on its feet," Jeff Lowe said. "We left to move away because we didn't want to be in a zoo in Oklahoma, so the notion that we tried to steal the zoo from him is just ridiculous." https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/01/enter...ing/index.html

Imprisoned ‘Tiger King’ star Joe Exotic is ‘over the moon’ to be famous, directors say
“Tiger King” was probably always destined to become a hit. How could a docuseries with exotic animals, polygamy, guns, murder conspiracies, meth and genital piercings be anything but? That the show just happened to come out on Netflix last Friday — as Americans were self-isolating at home because of the coronavirus outbreak — has only propelled it to greater popularity. Since its release on Friday, “Tiger King” has occupied the No. 1 spot on the streaming platform’s top 10 ranking. Memes about its colorful cast of characters have proliferated on Twitter and Instagram. Kim Kardashian West, Sam Smith and Awkwafina are just some of the celebrities who have said they’re watching. If you’re one of the scant few who’ve yet to binge the seven-part series, allow us to explain. Filmed over the course of five years, “Tiger King” centers largely on Joe “Exotic” Maldonado-Passage, the owner of a roadside wild cat zoo in rural Oklahoma. Joe Exotic bears a resemblance to Bret Michaels, carries a pistol on his hip, has a penchant for sequins and piercings, and at one point had two much younger husbands. He’s also obsessed with being famous, broadcasting the goings-on at the zoo via his own YouTube channel, where he spews hatred about his nemesis, Carole Baskin. Baskin, who has waist-length blond hair and only wears animal prints, runs her own cat park in Florida — though she bills it as a rescue facility — and opposes Joe’s practice of breeding lions and tigers and keeping them in captivity for profit. Eventually, the sparring between the two turns more serious: Suffice it to say, Joe Exotic, now 57, is in federal prison. We won’t give the ending away completely, but he was sentenced to 22 years behind bars for charges related to Baskin, as well as killing some of his own tigers. There are plenty of other wild, ethically dubious characters in “Tiger King.” Self-proclaimed cat lover Doc Antle operates the Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina with the aid of beautiful young women with whom he also has romantic relationships. Supposed wealthy businessman Jeff Lowe swoops in to bail Joe Exotic’s park out of financial ruin but ultimately ends up taking it over himself. It’s a lot. To help us sift through the chaotic world of “Tiger King,” we sought out its co-directors and writers, Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, who called on Tuesday from their respective quarantines in California and Woodstock, N.Y.
Spoiler!

It's not surprising that those portrayed in a negative light in the show are not pleased, especially considering each of them thought they were the rational one. That, or they're trying to cover their own asses at this point.

Did anyone know we were supposed to think this was a guy?
THE TIGER KING STAR YOU DIDN’T KNOW WAS TRANSGENDER It certainly has some LGBTQ aspects; Joe Exotic, the Oklahoma big-cat keeper and showmen at the center of this whole wacky thing, is at the center of a polyamorous gay throuple whose tripartite marriage is one of the many memorable incidents in the show. But there’s another pretty important LGBTQ-related fact about the show that neither the show itself nor most of the coverage around it will make clear to you, and that’s that Saff Saffery is actually a transgender man. Saffery, who like many of the characters on Tiger King, is wildly colorful and entertaining, is most notable due to having lost his hand and forearm to one of Joe Exotic’s tigers. While this was certainly a traumatic experience, he returned to work less than a week later, and never blamed the tiger, instead blaming himself for being “complacent,” according to a YouTube interview he gave to comedian David Spade last week. Referred to by his deadname and by female pronouns throughout the show, Saffery has nonetheless repeatedly stated his correct pronouns and what name he prefers to be called. This fact was publicized on Twitter by Robert Moor, who created Joe Exotic: Tiger King, a multi-part podcast for the Wondery podcast network. In the midst of a long Twitter thread of “Tiger King trivia,” he wrote, ” (Not really “trivia,” but a useful piece of info for anyone discussing the show): Saff, the person who got mauled by the tiger, told me repeatedly that he is trans, prefers to be called Saff (not “Kelci”), and uses he/him pronouns. So please do likewise.” https://rvamag.com/gay-rva/the-tiger...ansgender.html
