Let's Talk About the Eagles (Super Bowl 59 Discussion)

We're headed back to the Ship and will try to be the first team to 3-peat in Super Bowl history!!! Chiefs open up as 1.5 favorites over the Eagles.

Discuss.

and don't forget...

People (analysts), including our own fans, shit all over the Chiefs and their record all season. They were “lucky”, “not as talented”, “losing a step”, “vulnerable”, blah, blah, blah. What they were, was a team getting ready for the real season (Playoffs), and not interested in winning the stats and style points trophies. This is a team that knows how to prepare itself to win the biggest games. This is a team that is focused to be ready in the biggest moments. The analysts can yap and drool all they want about the Eagles individual talent, but I am betting on the best Team - The Chiefs of Kansas City.

You know, for all the complaints about the slippery field and how much of an advantage it was for the Chiefs because it slowed down the Eagles' great pass rush. But how about making it harder to cover people in the secondary? McDuffie and Sneed struggled in that game. How much did the field help Brown and Smith?

Just a random counterpoint thought...

Some thoughts:

1. While Philly has added some nice pieces to their team, so has KC. Anyone looking at this roster from top to bottom and thinks it’s worse than two years ago is simply biased. I mean who are the big losses (if you want to call it that) from the 2022 team? Brown Jr? Wylie? Gay? McKinnon? Clark?

2. KC has a huge coaching advantage.

Andy vs Sirianni = Andy and it’s not particularly close.

Nagy (basically Reid) vs Moore = Nagy (because of Reid) and it’s not close.

Spags vs Fangio = Spags easily. Taking nothing away from Fangio, but if the NFL ever started considering coordinators for the HOF, Spags would be first ballot. He’s one of the best to ever do it.

Toub vs. Clay = I am leaning Toub because of how good our special teams have been under him for a long time. He gets hate on here, but he’s a really good ST coach.

3. I said it last year before the playoffs and I am sticking to it. Give me the team with the most experience in the playoffs every time until someone knocks them off. That experience has been crucial during this three year run. They are never fazed by what’s going on and believe they can/will win every game. That can be intimidating to other teams.
Yeah, the whole "KC is worse" thing, I don't get at all. Where are they worse?

Not at QB (and you can argue they're better because Mahomes is not on a bad ankle). Not at WR (they are better). Maybe a little at TE (Kelce is not quite that player any more but Gray is also better). Not on the OL (they're better at RT, the same at LT, and worse at LG). KC is better on the DL (Karlaftis is better, Jones is still dominant, Omenihu is a much better #2 DE than anyone on that team, Wharton is available). KC is not as athletic at LB but is Chenal-Bolton-Tranquill worse than Bolton-Gay-Chenal? Maybe they're a little worse at nickel CB. They're better/the same at S.

Wonder if they’re loose mentally preparing like it’s any other playoff game they’ve won, or is the pressure higher because of the implications of the next 60 minutes? Obviously we’ve got the best coaching staff in the league, but pretty sure the Pats did too.

I think it’s gonna be like every other game we’ve played for almost 2 years. Keep it close, and hope that Mahomes gets the ball last. If it comes to that, then it’s game over!
Yeah this game is different in that perspective. There have been great teams in history, incredible coaches, but even they couldn't accomplish what we're trying to do. Bill had the greatest team of all time, and even he failed to accomplish the undefeated season. This is uncharted territory.

The only thing you can hope is the guys don't let that get in their heads. It's just another game, just another Super Bowl.

Yeah, Hurts lit up our secondary the last time. I didn't expect that.

It was more about two blown plays by Sneed and McDuffie and Goedert making great plays than Hurts lighting up the secondary.

Nearly 1/3 of his passing production came on 2 plays. Sneed getting completely lost and allowing a big gain by Smith. McDuffie losing the ball in the lights and allowing the Brown TD.

I want this game for Patrick. He will never have a head to head playoff victory against Brady. Who knows if he’ll play long enough to top Brady’s accrued over 2 decades. This is the one thing that he can do that will take him from legend to immortality. I pray he’s not thinking about that though. To me, this game solidifies him and Brady as 1 and 2 and in their own tier.

I actually hope he is thinking about it. That drives Patrick to another level of focus, the higher the pressure, the better the play. One of the few in any sport to have that gene.

There is ZERO chance he's not thinking about it.

He's one of those rare pairings of talent and historical drive.

He WANTS to be remembered forever and knows this is something that further cements him among the legends of all the sports. This puts him on the football Rushmore along with Brady, Rice and maybe Reggie?

And even that wouldn't be enough. He'd wanna be on the sports Rushmore. Like, Jordan, Ruth, Gretzky and Mahomes sort of thing.

The guy's pathological. Yeah, he wants this. He's thought about it.

Wasn't he saying something like "we got to get 3 it's never been done before" on stage to CJ immediately after the last SB?

I've gotta think, outside of Barkley rushing for 150+ yards we win this game.
