What kind of coal burner? Inline 109 primer or a traditional rifle?

Dude... 100 yards is a pretty long shot for black-powder. Listen, hit me up anytime for pointers. I'm an expert BP hunter. I currently own 4 rifles, a .54 traditional thompson center, 2 remington .50 cals in line and a .58 cal Kodiak double-barrel. I shot my 1st deer with that Kodiak at 12 years old.
I can currently hit a soda can at 200 with my Omega. Anything as far as loads or sighting in etc. Black powder is my personal preference. Hit me up.

I'm new to bp so I'm not sure. It's my grandpa in laws rifle. It was a thompson .50 cal scoped. The other guys bp looked more like a normal rifle with a bolt.

The sight of smoke and smell was actually kind of cool. I enjoyed shooting it. Since I already made it dirty I fired a few .490 balls and .50 bullets at a target and I was pretty accurate at 75 yards.

So you went traditional? Awesome... We're a rare breed. I use traditional once a year, (the .54) and in my opinion, you'll have more luck with the maxi-balls or sabots but if you're using the round- balls you have to remember the drop at 100. Its pretty significant.

I used a .50 bullet for the deer. I'm guessing I was too excited when I pulled the trigger. First time hunting, first time shooting black powder didn't help me much.

Oh man, Black powder is something that takes a little time to get used to, especially if you went traditional. There's a delay between trigger pull and ignition if you went traditional so you tend to brace yourself and pull the shot.
Modern muzzle-loaders don't have a delay so you have to practice with traditionals.

Good luck man, try to get one a little closer.

If you are using a traditional say a 50 cal you need the right patch & balls.
Start with the .490 ball and the .010 patch, use 60 grains ffg and shoot 3 to 5 rounds at 50 yards using the same POA. Swab between rounds and use the same loading technique for each round. Then repeat with 70 grains, 80 grains and 90 grains. Next, try the .490 with .015 patches and repeat the series. Next try .490 with .018 or .020 patches, if you can load them safely. Finally, shoot .495 ball with .005, .010 and .015 patches.

If you don't change loading technique or POA your groups should tell you what ball, patch and powder charge your gun shoots best with.

Edit & dont forget caps either some nipples take a #10 & others take a #11
Another note. if you decide ever to use Triple7 you should reduce your loads by 10%

Today was the last day of bp season. So, I spent $20 on a doe tag for nuffin. It was still fun though. I'll practice more before next season. Now, I can't wait till rifle season.

What are you using for rifle? I have a load set right now that I'm so happy with that I could blow the pope...
I shoot a 300 win mag Browning Semi-Auto. I'm currently getting a 1 inch group at 200. I load my own, (200 grain nosler ballistic tip).

Not sure. I don't own a deer rifle. My wifes grandpa let's me borrow any of his and you name it, he has it. I kind of want to use his 7mm mag.

Whatever I use, I need to take it out before, get comfortable with it and make sure it's shooting right.
