But I don’t think that are a lot of folks like you that consider themselves to be bettors but who confine their betting to taking advantage of some dumbasses who haven’t figured out you know more about fantasy football than they do. Most of the conversation in this thread and in the public space involves people betting against spreads, on moneylines, or prop bets offered by massively capitalized scammers expert at convincing dipshit voters and lawmakers that they should be tolerated and at convincing dipshit bettors to hand over their money.

I worked at a software company that handled the software that sports books used to process and handle their bets. It is incredibly hard to make money betting on sports.

I saw a guy make a million and lose a million in a single day.

For fun is fine, but don’t think you’re going to make coin doing it. Especially if you’re trying to bet consistently.

Yes it does. It is laughable. 2-3% of sportsbettors are long term winners. And a percentage of those guys lose it in the pits or on other stuff like poker because they are still degenerates.

25% is an INSANELY high percentage of winning players for sports betting. Even if you win more than half of your sports bets you still lose because of the vig. You have to win like 57% of the time long term I think to be a real winner, which is damn near impossible.

Yeah this is like claiming nobody wins by playing poker. Of course the ones who know what they're doing can and often do, and those who don't or play passively lose money.

One good thing about gambling, though, is the fact that money talks and bulllshit walks. It’s nice to imagine that some of the commentators on sports broadcasts might decide to start betting and thus learn that they don’t know much more than the general public knows. Markets are pretty good at figuring out where the moneyline should be. They’re also good at setting spreads, of course, but to me the bettors who bet on the spread are even stupider than the other bettors because they are betting on something that isn’t even what the game is about. As a Chiefs fan, I don’t give a shit if the Chiefs cover a spread, I just want them to have more points than the other team has when the game is over. Fortunately, that seems to be Reid’s goal, as well.
