Find the Launch Codes! Alex Smith 6th Best QB Since Week 1!

After the terrible performance in week one Alex Smith has the sixth highest passer rating among all NFL QBs with at least 100 passes attempted. His line:

100 of 151 for 1068 yards for 8 TDs and 1 INT and a rating of 101.64.

The comeback win yesterday was a nice outlier that I hope he can duplicate when needed but when we're leading with the rush he's put up some pretty nice performances against the #2, #4, #5, #6, and #12 ranked defenses.

Or you didn't understand what I highlighted in the post.

To put it into layman's terms its pretty subjective.

How much pressure a QB is under, what the max yards he "could have" effected on the play etc...

It has its flaws whether its better than Passer Rating or not which is what I said, they both have flaws.

Can you argue QBR isn't somewhat subjective or doesn't have flaws? I don't see how unless you didn't know how its calculated.

I've yet to see a QBR rating that I've thought was way off base. The entire point of the metric is to show how much value the player has on each play.

When the QBR system rewards a guy for going 14-18 for 90 yards, 2 TDs and no INTs, get back to me.

Advanced metrics like QBR and DVOA/DYAR may be subjective, but they are much more accurate than the passer rating system which allows you to artificially inflate your value by being conservative with the ball.

Didn't say it wasn't better I said it had flaws. Try to keep up.

Here is an example, Mike Glennon has a higher QBR than Russel Wilson right now.

I rest my case.

I don't think it was a solid game. It was enough to win that game, but going forward he needs to be much better.

He played better in the 2nd half for sure

67% completion and 7.8 ypa and no INTs?

That's a solid game.

1 single play to Jenkins would be changing your thoughts, but it wasn't Alex who blew the play. We still scored later in the drive but Alex's stats look different because Jenkins stepped out.

Think about that.

No, we punted when he missed Jenkins deep down the field.

Even with what your saying, why would a wide receiver taking a screen and making it a big play change how I felt a qb played?

Jenkins even breaking free in the first place on that play was all about his own effort. Smith did zilch on that one.

As far as quarterback rating goes, you don't even need to bring up QBR to talk about the sheer irrelevance of the stat. Ditto for quantifying quarterback play based on win-loss record, which you see all the time at basically every level.

Smith is playing better, although I did not think this week was one of his better games. Not saying it's bad, just that I think he's looked better at other times this year. And he's still leaving tons of potential plays on the board because he's so hesitant to throw the ball downfield. Hopefully Reid continues to push him on that. We're going to need him to be aggressive at some point.

Even statistically if he takes it, I'm not sure it wasn't a lateral

This. Plus good 3rd down conversion rate. And making and extending plays with his legs. He wasn't lighting it up, but he was making good decisions and the TOP and extended drives indicates he was making good adjustments and calls pre snap. Long methodical drives to keep rivers on the side line. Not sexy but solid. Good game management by a great game manager.

Which play did the receiver step out of bounds after the catch down field when he had nothing but green in front of him? That was Jenkins right? If not it was Avery. Either way the point stands.

It's just wanting more I guess. As milkman was objected for saying, we should have won that game by 2 scores. It didn't need to be a last minute win. We can't keep leaving potential big plays on the field cause that shit will cost you games.

Controlling the top and picking up 3rd downs is great, props for that. But we need those chunk plays to put more points in the board

It was jenkins on a wr receiver screen.

The point doesn't stand because there is no point. I'm not giving the qb any credit when a wr takes a wr screen however long for a td
