So, lets say Hill is starting to get safety attention and Robinson is anything close to NFL ready (or hell, Wilson is just the same fairly benign presence he's always been). Shouldn't that do a lot to open up targets for Kelce and the slot WR? I suspect the X will be about the same.

But if they can get defenses back into the 'pick your poison' mode of 2015 when they had to decide if they wanted to let Maclin or Kelce beat them, that's a MASSIVE win.

I think the point isn't necessarily that his stats will be as good but over larger opportunities, but rather that his production over minimal opportunities establishes him as a credible threat that may draw defenses in a way that Maclin simply wasn't doing last year.

Then again, Smith will probably just roll the other way and overthrow a runningback instead.

****! Not a smith thread. Still....****.
No, I totally get that. My comment was strictly just based on "double his targets and double his stats". I think Hill has a ceiling right now with Smith as his QB. It's not necessarily a knock on Smith....but I'm not expecting to see a 1300 yard year with 12-14 TDs. I think I'm expecting around 950 yards with 7-8 TDs.

In response to Pest-- I should clarify that I don't think Hill is a lock to double his stats if he plays 80% or more of the snaps next year.

It was more so just a way of saying that the guy clearly has what it takes to have big seasons as a WR, and that he was the true #1 WR for the Chiefs in the 2nd half of last season.

You have to ask yourself, how many teams in the NFL have two blue chip, top 40(?) players as their top 2 receiving options. Hill and Kelce are both matchup nightmares that ideally require extra attention. Very few teams have two skilled pass catchers/weapons of their caliber.

The issue comes in if one of them is hurt. That is when the depth of the offense is going to be greatly tested, but hopefully it doesn't come to that. If Kelce and Hill are playing though, it makes everyone else's job a whole lot easier.

That costs about $4.5 million, and many teams like to have a $5 million cushion for emergency spending. The only contract besides Maclin’s that could have been dumped for a cap savings of more than $5 million was Alex Smith’s. Kansas City’s other option was to dump a trio of mid-level players.

The bottom line: Maclin is a quality No. 2-caliber receiver who was making No. 1-type money on a team that really doesn’t need a No. 1-type receiver to begin with.

Probably the same way it affected Desean Jackson. He'll be used in special teams on a limited basis. He'll be a part time special team's returner and someone else will get the brunt of the work.

Saying Dorsey needs to clean up the cap situation is ignoring the fact that he just did that.

Not only for now but presumably for the future. Trip MacCrackin was obviously doing a piss poor job. The guy underneath him it would seem was analyzing this and at some point had to show a graph to someone above Trip. Like hey look I'm getting ignored here but everyone look at this please because our cap situation is SCREWED and here's why.

Dorsey must have been impressed because he fired Trip and promoted this guy.

Andy is probably banking on him being young and in great condition and will probably use him up this year as much as he can unless he signs another vet WR before TC.

Pats use Eddelmann in that role but I consider him more of a WR than return guy and he doesn't usually take every return.

Toub will probably find another guy to take KR's and then use Hill on PR's here and there depending on the way things are going.

It will be the year we all find out if he is a slash player like hall/DAT/McCluster were or a true WR who also can return like Edelman.

Hard to imagine DAT sticking. Robinson is lauded for his run after catch ability, and Chesson has some return experience as well. I expect one of those two to take over duties.
