The fate of Chris Jones 2023 edition

Appears the Chiefs and Chris Jones are at the beginning of a contract dispute

Speculation has been that the two sides are "far apart" on a deal

So Chiefs Planet.... how do we think this will play out (poll coming)

Will the Chiefs pay up and meet Chris Jones demands? If so, how much will it end up costing?

Will the Chiefs not be able to meet Chris Jones demands and end up trading him? If so, what kind of haul can we expect?

I've really loved watching Chris Jones wreck shit for the Chiefs, it always sucks when the business side of the NFL forces teams into tough decisions.

I saw somewhere it is $50K per day so that would be like $700K now. Kind of insane, wish he would just play out his contract that he signed at least. Hopefully he does but missing all this camp time can't be a good thing.

even 700k is like holy ****

The average ticket holder that pays to see Chris Jones play football as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs probably averages $70,000 per year salary. So far CJ has racked up 10 years worth of that fans average salary in fines while sitting at home instead of being in camp.

Hard to feel bad for the guy

Definitely don't feel bad for him but I wouldn't take it personal what Jones is doing. He simply is on a different level financially than average NFL fan and even many NFL players.

Look at it like this if you have to pay $1 million in fines now but it leads to an extra $2+ million a year it's a smart move if all you care about is money.

That said, it is definitely strange for him to do this w what Mahomes is doing w his contract. Some ppl are all about that dollar.

Really good laugh all the way through. Here are the rest of the player grades.

KeiVarae Russell, CB: B-
Parker Ehinger, OL: C-
Eric Murray, DB: B+
DeMarcus Robinson, WR: C
Kevin Hogan, QB: A+
Tyreek Hill, RB: D (tough for him to crack the roster as anything more than a 4th string RB or kick return specialist!)
DJ White, CB: B-
Dadi Nicolas: B-
This is the exact reason I really can't follow the NFL draft. Everybody is just throwing darts hoping to get lucky. Nobody really knows shit.

We got lucky on Tyreek Hill. If we thought he was gonna be this good we would have drafted him in the 1st round.

You don't have to trade him. You can make him play out his contract this year and them tag him. Is he gonna sit out two years and forgo 50M to 55M dollars?

I'm tired of ppl scared to use the tag. It was collectively bargained upon and agreed to by the players union.

I don't want it to come down to this but if it is between trading him since you can't sign him play hardball and tell him your just gonna tag his ass. What's he gonna do?

I move we change the thread title to incorporate "tagging Jones next year will cost $32.5M" since no one can seem to remember it.

Not necessarily. Why draft a player in the 1st if he will be there in the 3rd? But I agree drafting isn't a science.

It won't come to that plenty of teams will trade for Jones if worse comes to worse.

I’m still of the mindset that if they were going to trade him before this season they would have done so before the draft so they could use any new draft picks for this year’s team. It makes little sense to trade him now and basically have a full season without his on field value or draft return value available this season.
