Carson Wentz or Patrick Mahomes?

We are starting to see some people saying Carson Wentz is/will be better than Patrick Mahomes. I think it’s ridiculous, but there are people that feel that way. I was wondering if anyone here would choose Wentz over Mahomes. So the choice is simple: who would you rather have as QB for the rest of the season? Wentz Or Mahomes?

Don't they play Cincy still?

If they lose to the Bengals, that game could be a play-in game for them.

Had a conversation with my boss where he brought up David Carr with the Texans.

David wasn't very good, but he also had a horrendous OL and got mercilessly beat up. Eventually he started just falling down when there was any sign of pressure coming towards him, expecting the sack before it even happened.

Made me think about Mahomes. When you've been getting consistent pressure for what feels like going back all the way to last season, everything breaks down. Anticipation, footwork, confidence, etc. We've talked about it plenty, you start seeing ghosts and run from clean pockets, then hang in there when the pressure swallows you up.

I think it makes more sense than blaming Nagy or blaming the playcalling, even though the playcalling to end the game was horrendous. Everything about Mahomes game breaking down seems more about him not being comfortable back there.

EDIT: I should maybe also contribute to the conversation lol. If Mahomes is hurt and on a short week, maybe rest and some perspective is what he needs. It might be what the whole team needs, frankly.

It'll look cleaner. And show better where the duct-tape and bubble game Mahomes and Reid have been using this year was/was not necessary. Where it's helped and where it's hurt.

And again, it might just look like shattered ass. In which case we know that maybe what we've seen over the last 8-10 weeks is (bizarrely) what we have to work with.

But I can't convince myself that's the case. I don't think one single change at LT has made everything THIS much worse.

I think we've lost the plot. And a step back may be hugely beneficial for everyone involved.
I'm hoping we eventually get a postmordem about what the actual **** is going on. It's just pure ass on offense.

I am curious if Wentz gets the Nod to play vs the Texans if he hits all the open receivers Pat has been missing.

I think Denver has to finish 2/3 to get that spot.

They've got the Chargers/Bengals/Chiefs to finish.

According to this simulator, they only need to win 1 more to make the playoffs.

I'm more curious than anything with how often he gets hit.

I've said for awhile that I think Mahomes is creating a lot of these hits on himself by just not being decisive and making 'big' movements in the pocket. But I could easily be wrong.

I don't know that I have any answers here - I just have a few theories. And Wentz under center for a game could prove/disprove some of those pretty easily.

It would do a bit to provide a clearer path forward. Or at least tell us if we even have any changes we can meaningfully make.

I am pretty sure Wentz and this offense would look terrible with our current OT play. We have a disaster at LT so bad we're playing a guard there. And our RT is playing worse than Andrew Wylie, the guy he was paid handsomely to replace.

I would be curious to see Wentz play a full game, but my expectation is that the offense would look just as bad if not worse.

Donovan Smith gave Mahomes just enough confidence to allow him to see the field and make quick decisions. Smith wasn't great, but he wouldn't get beat like a drum over and over. And he was savvy enough to just hold onto his guy if he was bested early. Mahomes knew that and counted on it.

People have been talking about the o line getting Mahomes killed since OBJ's first year here. It hasn't happened. In fact, most of his injuries have been outside the pocket, when he's trying to make a play after things broke down.

People need to stop being scared. This is Mahomes' team.

I'm kinda at the end of the rope with the "he's not confident" stuff with regards to the OL.

Yeah, sure, he's gotten hit. So has Josh Allen. And Joe Burrow. Lamar gets hit all the time.

That's what happens. You've gotta stand in there and take the bullets and be calm in the madness and throw the football.

I have had the opinion for a few years that he wants to run around and be a "playmaker" too much instead of throwing the ball on time where it's supposed to go. We've argued it alot, but shit......seems relevant now?

I think that the offense would change. Wentz does not have the mobility or escapability that Mahomes possesses. Therefore the offense would likely change to a more run, quick pass, play action type of offense.

Have any of those teams had to replace their starting LT with a Guard?

Confidence in the offensive line, especially the LT, is pretty damn important. I don't think there's a better explanation out there.

I would argue that's what we should have been doing all along.

I was watching the Lions/Bills game, and the biggest thing I took away from that was it sure would be nice if Mahomes had all day to throw, like Josh Allen.
