Trading Down
It looks like there's a very good chance we're stuck in the rift of the first Rd when all the premier talent is gone.
IMO the draft could go a lot like this: http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2016/04/24/n...er-king-trades IMO Lynch goes way higher and Kelly/Billings is off the board, but in this situation it looks like trading down is the best option. Of the prospects left on the board (again I think Kelly/Billings are gone), the best prospect available appears to be Josh Garnett. I think if we stayed at 28 he's the guy (Vonn Bell is appealing here as well). In this situation, do you trade down to the mid 30's if you can get a 4th Rd pick? |

"We're always open to more picks. If you can acquire more picks, I think that helps. I think it increases your odds. I'm always for trading back and getting a few picks and I'll try to work it either way. We've made advanced calls and we're always open."
Dorsey's press conference I don't think WJIII or Apple will be there even at 20, and I don't have confidence in Vernon Butler being there either. I do believe that calls have been made to trade up if one of the CB's fall, but I don't think that happens. IMO the most likely outcome is trading into the early 2nd rd with a team wanting someone like Connor Cook, getting a 3rd or 4th rd pick and selecting a good talent like Jihad Ward, Josh Garnett, or maybe Artie Burns Cleveland has 6 picks in the top 100 and I bet they'll want to move up. Trading back to 32 for the 99th or 100th pick would be a fantastic move.

The only thing I'll be pissed about with a trade down would be the fact that I wasted my night watching the 1st round and getting to see KC pick.

Every 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th round pick is going to become a superstar!!!! I put some value to 4th rounders, but based more on certain positions (OG, OC, S, RB, and special teams guys at DB or WR primarily). After that, I could honestly give 2 ****s who the Chiefs take as they are either going to be developmental guys for a few years or not even make the roster. If you want impact players, those first 3 rounds have to be hits a good percentage of the time. |

the draft is a crap shoot and any thought to the contrary is stupid.
If you (team) is 100% sure of a players ability to translate to the NFL and make and impact right away then you think about moving up and taking him. Best example to me is the 49ers moving up to get Jerry. But in this draft, we would have to move up into the top 10 to accomplish that or so stated by most analysts. And we are missing a 3rd this year which hurts so its reasonable considering where we are drafting to move down. Probably still get a player with very similar grade if we only move down 10 to 13 slots or so. If you can get back that third and its a higher one than we lost then I think its a good deal. we still need more players on this roster as evidence of the playoffs last year. Our starters were good enough but injuries killed us against the Pats. Plus we lost a very good CB and a lot of oline and we may not have enough to sign Berry long term. |

Knew this was likely. We wanted Artie Burns and WJIII and it went stagnant.
Not worth it. Trade down.

Nice call, Run. Dorsey said in his presser that he had his eye on a couple of guys (WJIII and Burns?), and once they were gone (and Lynch, imo) he felt the value was in the second round.
