With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Let me say this...obviously both our owners have proven to be VERY flawed.

But at least when uproar came out about the soft ceiling and the heat came, Glass responded. And at least now when it's clear that GMDM's golden boy (Hoch) isn't so golden, he's willing to cut his losses and say goodbye so that he can replace him with better talent.

It's not much, but it's better than what we've gotten from the other side of the parking lot so far.

If you get mere salary relief, take it and run. You will get absolutely nothing for Hochevar and Chen, not even a D- prospect. You might get an A ball catcher with a nice arm that can't hit a breaking ball that you could possibly convert to a relief pitcher or something.

A B+ prospect would be someone like Giovatella. No, you're not getting anyone that has even a 10% chance at seeing a major league roster for that collection of overpaid trash.

In case there are any fans or front office staff from other teams looking through this thread, I just want to say that Hochevar has a lot of promise and Chen is a reliable #1 for a couple more years.

Did I miss something? How did Glass respond? To raise the soft cap to 76?

No, he completely lied about the profit that he's gotten. But at least he demonstrated that he heard the criticism.

Glass probably didn't respond to anything. This is the same thing I said yesterday after the article. DM just doesn't tip his hand at all. Honestly, he just flat out plays the "poor us" card all the time regardless of what he's really doing. A few weeks ago Hochevar was in the rotation next year, now he's being shopped. Just like there'll be a "soft cap" of $70 million, until they can make a trade or find a FA that wants to come to KC.

It's just like a few years ago when DM played the poor us card after Meche and Guillen, etc... yet still went after guys like Torii Hunter, Orlando Hudson, Kuroda, etc. even though those guys would've pushed the payroll to 80-90 million. Problem is people in KC eat every press conference interview soundbite up like it's the gospel.

I couldn't believe that. I assume Robinson was the highlight of the trade, but still, we got 1 halfway-decent prospect out of that. (the other prospect is probably garbage)

Agreed....we dont see DM's moves coming ahead of time. Im hoping he's got something good up his sleeve

Amazing that both Chunt and GlASS continually complain that the money available to spend reported by the media is always wrong and both play the "poor" not making any money bullshit. Kansas City gets raped by both it's professional sports teams. Open your ****ing books you jokers and prove we don't have the money
