With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Had a bad year last year...not like the Royals are tied to mult years. Not sure why the bitching really. This team needs starters and he has had an era under 4 since 2008 combined. Finished up with a 3.63 era totalled towards the end to lower the era. Gotta try hard for Sanchez

Agreed. I also liked the Jonathan Sanchez trade but that one went to hell.

This is the first time Santana's ever had a bad season, and he finished strong in August and September. Its just 1 year and we'll be paying him an awful lot of money to pitch in 2013, but this could work.

We need one more, preferably two since I want Luke's ass cut.

We gave up nothing to get a legitimate major league arm. Hes won 16 games 3 times, thrown a no-no and hes not worth 12m.

Your are basing your argument off of last year. Congrats, Santana had a shitty year and your birds had a respectable year. I think both were anomalys.

Look forward to 20 more years of futility.

Again, this is a good trade on paper. No one, I mean no one the Royals sign or should say are willing\able to sign is going to do anything to influence me until next April and the balls & strikes count.

At this point we still have one of the worst pitchers in baseball in Hochevar. Paulino won't be back in anytime to play a solid #3-#4 role. Chen is still not the #5 where he should be. Duffy won't be back anytime soon either.

Paulino and Duffy give GMDM an out to stick with people like Hoch and Chen ala "we didn't want to sign anyone else because we knew at some point these guys would return to the rotation"

Pretty much. Hoch or the lack of him is pretty much the litmus test for GMDM at the moment
