I'm going to enjoy pointing this out next season....when your team is, again, average. You wont be able to use "he's doing good for a rookie" excuse anymore. Nix is a high floor, low ceiling QB...and already 25. He also played the most college games in history. He's the same age as Trevor Lawrence.

I dont expect him to make a huge jump from this year to next. Donks are going to be a season-to-season team...kind of like the Titans/Chargers/Raiders were. Have a decent year every once in a while...and it's entirely contingent on the supporting cast and some luck. Nix wont be a "put the team on your back" type of QB...his ceiling is similar to a Tannehill.

That's what purgatory is...decent but never really in serious contention for championships.

Alex Smith was on some stacked KC teams...amounted to nothing. Beat both the Seahawks and Patriots that Superbowl year.

You do what you can until you get really lucky with a QB.

Chiefs loaded up to the hilt with Alex Smith. Very high talent level. Then came Mahomes and he turned water into wine.

Another thing that can make it a moot point is that all those QB's you mentioned just might get their weapons upgraded in the coming season....not just Nix all by his lonesome.

In Mahomes case, per say, what if the Chiefs land another RB in the mold of either Jamaal Charles or Priest Holmes in the 2025 draft -- both of whom were explosive play-makers.

Nix had his chance against the Bills 24th ranked pass defense and did essentially nothing other than a bomb.

I was waiting for him to show something that said "I can compete on the biggest stage"...he had his chances against winning teams in the final month also.

He was decent at times, this year, against bad teams...

Overall, I'm happy the Donks drafted him. Going to keep them from improving the QB position for at least two more years.

The thing is they likely wont be bad enough to be able to draft his replacement either...

The Bills are going through a reset year and Josh Allen still out then in contention for the #1 seed. Same thing in Baltimore. Their defense struggled so much and Lamar has performed to expectations. Then you add Mahomes and what he’s done. And as much as I don’t like Burrow he’s done a great job keeping them in games overall despite his defense going to hell and a HC that isn’t good.

This is why it’s so important to get a QB with a high ceiling instead of just a high floor. Nix did next to nothing after that great throw on the first drive.

The Broncos best shot with Nix will be in the next 3 years while he isn’t being paid and they can add talent in FA, but it’s a Tua/Purdy type deal. They’ll look good on paper until it comes time to perform against great teams.

They’re gonna have to surround the kid with elite talent like SF and DET did but like I’ve mentioned before, this ain’t the NFC.

The odds of the Broncos getting the 1 seed playing in this division are low. The odds of them beating 2 of the best QB’s in the conference on the road is low as well.

Yep...

Denver's defense was more surprising than Nix...they were responsible for them even sniffing the post-season.

Had a pick 6 against the Raiders when Vegas was about to go up a few scores. Two pick sixes against the Browns. Colts RB dropping the TD run out of bounds...then another pick six.

Any of those games could have gotten out of hand...and the Jets kicker missing 2 FGs in the final 2 minutes. Chiefs back-ups. Donks could have easily been a 7 win team. They looked like one against the Bills.

I expect them to regress back to around 8 wins...no injured NFC South next year.

The Donks were just outhouse lucky and they were outhouse lucky with the circumstances that were in place when they faced KC both times.

I'm hoping that next year, the Chiefs get to play the Donks in the first half of the season at Donkeytown (circa October) with the rematch in KC occurring in December in a meaningful game. If that happens, it will be interesting to see how things shake out.

It’s reality and I’m not using it as an excuse. Next year, Nix and the team need to prove they can beat the good teams, no doubt. The team this year proved they can win, now they have to raise the bar and be competitive with the better teams. The ground game was pathetic and that’s what every QB needs, a consistent threat of a rushing attack and Denver did not have that.

If only the Donks had an all world WR like Jefferson...THEN they would be contenders.

*Checks notes*

Vikings score 9 points....

Teams only go as a far as their QB's ability to perform in big games...Nix hasnt shown any signs of this trait. I guess you could say the desperation 4th down throw into double coverage vs. the Bengals was clutch...I say it was dumb luck. He had 6 passing yards in OT to follow it.

Got shut out for the final 55 minutes vs. the Bills...not a good pattern forming.

Probably was banking on the Bills backup QB playing like when they faced the Saints/Chiefs....without those two games, they miss the postseason and finish with a losing record.
