Alternate Reality Game 1: Chiefs
The original post is below in blue, but let's summarize it here based on the past few years.
1. If you're a new player, start with the current Chiefs roster. If you've been playing for a while you'll have your own evolved roster. 2. You can add any free agent that the Chiefs add. 3. You lose any free agent that the Chiefs lose, but only if they were on the Chiefs' roster when you began playing. 4. You can accept or reject any trade the Chiefs make as long as any Chiefs player involved is currently on your roster. 5. You do not get players that the Chiefs draft. You draft your own players, using the same draft picks that the Chiefs have. 6. You can trade down ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade down before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.) If you trade down after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 25 percent. Any trade down must involve only the picks of one NFL team, and you cannot receive more than two picks more than you give up. (In other words, if you trade away one draft pick you cannot pick up more than three in return.) The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. See the examples at the bottom of the post. 6. You can trade up ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade up before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.). If you trade up after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 15 percent. Any trade up must involve only the picks of one NFL team. The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. 7. By the beginning of the season, you must reduce your total roster to include only 53 players. Original post: You can ignore this now.
Spoiler!
Added Rules and Reminders: 1. Remember that you can draft undrafted rookies, so you don't have to select only guys who were drafted. 2. Anyone can change their rookie draft selections at any time, UNTIL we reach ten days before training camp. At that point, all picks will be locked in. 3. Each team can do ONE trade of draft picks if they like, using this chart:http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...t-trade-chart/. However, if you're trading up, you have to pay 15 percent more than the stated value of the picks you're obtaining. If you're trading down, your pick's value will be discounted by 25 percent. For example, if you want to trade up from the 20th pick in the 1st to the 10th pick, you can see from the chart that the 20th pick is worth 259 points. The 10th pick is normally 369 points, but by paying 15 percent more, it will cost you 1.15*369, or 424 points. So you would need to come up with another 165 points to make the deal (424-259) For example, if you want to trade down from the 20th pick in the 1st and pick up the 10th pick in the 2nd, your 20th pick would normally be worth 259 points, but in this game it will be worth 25 percent less, or 194 points. The 10th pick in the 2nd is worth 142 points, so you can get 52 points back from the other team. (Remember that you cannot pick up more than two extra picks in the trade, so consider your math carefully.) You can do only ONE draft-pick trade up and ONE draft-pick trade down, and in each case you can only trade with one other team for their own picks. (In other words, you couldn't take the 52 points in the above example from a third team.) Last edited by Rain Man; 04-25-2024 at 11:30 AM.. |

Y'know, I was winning this game the past several years after drafting Russell Wison, but because I had Russell Wilson I didn't make the Mahomes trade. The entire field has flipped on me now, and I may be the last place team for the next decade or two.

I remember wanting Kamara, but I think accepting the trade up for Mahomes made it basically impossible, so I settled for Hunt. So small bright side for you not drafting Mahomes.

Dang. My team is reloading this year. Travis Kelce was my only pro bowler.
I expected Russell Wilson, Alvin Kamara, and Desmond King to make it, and maybe Reshad Jones. And of course Marcus Peters didn't make it. It was quite a down year for me.

But wait. I only had one pro bowler, but I inexplicably had three all-pros: Kelce, Schwartz, and Desmond King. My team is a powerhouse!

You can google a player's name followed by pff and get pff scores. Here's how my team fared. The number to their right is their pff rank among their position group.
Overall, I think my offense was pretty potent. My WRs were weak, but having Kamara and Kelce would still give me a good passing game, and I was strong at QB, RB, TE, T, and C. Guard is a notable weakness, but I'm developing those guys. I'd give my offense a pretty good grade. Defense is a somewhat different story. My DL was above average, so along with Zach Brown I had decent run defense. However, I have nothing remotely resembling a pass rush. My top pass rusher was Maurice Hurst with 4.0 sacks. My corners were very solid, but my safeties were below average. I think I would've gotten chewed up in the passing game with no pressure and weaknesses at some of my linebacker positions. I think my offense would have carried me to a 10-6 season, plus or minus a game. Russell Wilson (Seahawks) 6 Nathan Peterman (Bills) Unrated Chase Litton Unrated Average rank is 16, so I was well above average at this position. No depth, but I didn't need it. RB Alvin Kamara (Saints) 4 Damien Williams 14 Justin Jackson (Chargers) Unrated Samaje Perine (Redskins) Unrated Rashaad Penny (Seahawks) Unrated Average rank is 16, so I was well above average at this position with a great 1-2 punch. Interestingly, Jackson also had a good score though he didn't get a lot of carries. I was stacked at RB this year. WR Sammy Watkins 48 Donte Moncrief (Jaguars) 88 Marcus Kemp Unrated James Washington (Steelers) 122 Byron Pringle Unrated If you have two average WRs in the NFL, their ranks would be 16 and 48 (average 1st tier and average 2nd tier) for a total of 64. I was really weak here as my high draft pick James Washington could even come close to getting the starting job. I basically ran with no #1 receiver. TE Travis Kelce (Chiefs) 3 Ben Koyack (Jaguars) Unrated Alex Ellis Unrated Average rank is 16, so I was well above average at this position. No depth, though. Kelce in essence was my #1 WR. OT Mitchell Schwartz (Browns/Chiefs) 5 Tyrell Crosby (Lions) Unrated Morgan Moses (Redskins) 53 Corey Robinson (Panthers) Unrated If you have two average OTs in the NFL, their ranks would be 16 and 48 (average 1st tier and average 2nd tier) for a total of 64. So while Schwartz is playing out of position at LT, I was still above average. Crosby had good enough scores to potentially take Moses' starting job. G Christian Westerman (Bengals) Unrated Andrew Wylie 28 Wyatt Teller (Bills) 56 If you have two average OGs in the NFL, their ranks would be 16 and 48 (average 1st tier and average 2nd tier) for a total of 64. I therefore had one of the worst starting guard tandems in the league. However, all three players are young and ascending, and Westerman had great grades from PFF. He just didn't get the starting job. C Cody Whitehair (Bears ) 10 Average rank is 16, so I was above average at this position. No depth, but I didn't need it. K Harrison Butker P Dustin Colquitt LS James Winchester No PFF ranks for these guys, but they were all really good. FS Jordan Poyer (Bills) 44 Ron Parker 76 Miles Killebrew (Lions) Unrated SS Reshad Jones (Dolphins) 33 If you have two average Safeties in the NFL, their ranks would be 16 and 48 (average 1st tier and average 2nd tier) for a total of 64. With a total of 77, I was below average here. CB Desmond King (Chargers) 2 Steve Nelson (Chiefs) 33 Kendall Fuller (Redskins) 40 Marcus Peters (Rams) 100 If you have two average Safeties in the NFL, their ranks would be 16 and 48 (average 1st tier and average 2nd tier) for a total of 64. Add in a nickel would rank 80 on average, and you get 144. At collective ranks of 75 for my top three combined, and I had really good CB play, with Marcus Peters to add in the dime. This group is strong. OLB/Edge AJ Klein (Saints) 28 Jack Cichy (Buccaneers) Unrated Taco Charlton (Cowboys) 62 Dorance Armstrong 97 Ade Aruna Unrated If you have two average OLB/Edges in the NFL, their ranks would be 16 and 48 (average 1st tier and average 2nd tier) for a total of 64. I was well below average here with my top two starters at 90. Cichy played well enough to take the starting spot on one side, but didn't play enough due to injury. ILB Zach Brown (Titans) 3 Derrick Johnson (Chiefs) Unrated Ben Niemann Unrated Reggie Ragland (Chiefs) 73 Anthony Hitchens 92 If you average 1.5 ILBs per team, and average rank would be 16 and 32 for a total score of 48. Zach Brown was awesome, but the other position in my 3-4 defense would have been a big hole. Ragland was the top-rated regular starter, though DJ and Niemann both deserved the starting nod over him based on grading. DE Maurice Hurst 49 Star Lotulelei (Bills) 105 Ifeadi Odenigbo (Vikings) Unrated Michael Bennett (Jaguars) Unrated Hercules Mata'afa Unrated NT Brandon Williams (Ravens) 36 Andrew Billings (Bengals) 41 Xavier Williams 60 With a 3-4 I'd line up three of these guys. If you average 3.5 starting DL on a team, then average would be ranks of 18, 50, and 83. Putting Brandon Williams, Andrew Billings, and Maurice Hurst on the line would give me an above-average group.

I'll give ya mine for comparison's sake I suppose Rain Man. You look MUCH better on defense than my shit show.
Offense (25) QB Patrick Mahomes II (#1-10/17, KC) - #2 QB Chad Henne (FA/18, KC) - U/R I have the Mahomes. I don't need anyone else. RB Christopher Carson (#7-245/17, SEA) - #5 RB Spencer Ware - #36 RB Aaron Jones (#5-180/17, GB) - #12 RB Darrel Williams (UDFA/18, KC) - U/R Top notch stable with two backs in the top 3rd of the league and another solid backup. FB Anthony Sherman - U/R WR Sammy Watkins (FA/18, KC) - #48 WR Tyler Boyd (#2-37/16, CIN) - #12 WR Chris Conley - #113 WR Stacy Coley (#6-218/17, MIN) - U/R (Now with NYJ) WR Rashard Higgins (#5-162/16, CLE) - #58 WR Marcus Kemp (FA/18, KC) - U/R Higgins helped make this group solid. Basically a top tier, a mid second tier, and a top third tier in Boyd, Watkins, and Higgins. Even Conley would come in as an ok 4th. TE Travis Kelce - #3 TE Demetrius Harris - #41 TE Alex Ellis (FA/18, KC) - U/R Gotta add behind Kelce. OT Eric Fisher - #24 OT Mitchell Schwartz - #5 OT Andrew Wylie (FA/18, KC) - #28 (OG) OG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - #31 OG Connor McGovern (#4-126/16, DEN) - #50 OG Cole Madison (#4-122/18, GB) - U/R OG Ike Boettger (FA/18, KC) - U/R OC Mitch Morse - #13 OC Bradley Bozeman (#6-198/18, BAL) - U/R I'll just address the O-Line as a whole. I think LDT is a top 10 guard normally, so having two others in the top 50 isn't bad. Will probably have to get a tackle and a center though going forward. Defense (25) DL Allen Bailey - #92 DL Xavier Williams (FA/18, KC) - #60 DL Carlos Watkins (#4-132/17, HOU) - U/R DL Harrison Phillips (#3-95/18, BUF) - #73 DL Zach Sieler (#7-219/18, BAL) - U/R DL Justin Hamilton (FA/18, KC) - U/R Mostly a shit show. I have to get some talent in here. OLB Justin Houston - #14 OLB Matt Judon (#4-129/16, BAL) - #54 OLB Dee Ford - #6 OLB Tanoh Kpassagnon (#2-59/17, KC) - U/R OLB Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (#5-159/18, LAR) - U/R Very good top 3 as a group. Hoping Okorokwo adds more juice in 2019. ILB Anthony Hitchens (FA/18, KC) - #92 ILB Reggie Ragland (f/BUF 2019 4th) - #73 ILB Blair Brown (#5-148/17, JAX) - U/R ILB Ben Niemann (UDFA/18, KC) - U/R Just as bad as the Chiefs because it is the Chiefs, basically. Atrocious. CB Kendall Fuller (T-WAS/18, KC) - #40 CB Steven Nelson - #33 CB Tarvarius Moore (#3-86/18, SF) - U/R CB Tremon Smith (#6-196/18, KC) - U/R CB Holton Hill (#7-243/18, MIN) - #42 Hill of made this group really solid but unspectacular. If Moore "gets it" in year two I could have a solid group pending I add a top CB early in the draft. DB Eric Berry - U/R DB Jessie Bates (#2-52/18, CIN) - #11 DB Ron Parker (FA/18, KC) - #76 DB Daniel Sorensen - #73 DB Jordan Lucas (f/MIA 2020 7th, KC) - #80 Bates was a steal but the rest is shit. Going to have to get another day 2 product here at worst. Special Teams (3) K Harrison Butker (FA/17, KC) P Dustin Colquitt LS James Winchester Overall, my roster remains too infused with Chiefs trash on defense so I'll have to continue to build there. Offensively, I'd be just fine.Offense (25) QB Patrick Mahomes II (#1-10/17, KC) - #2 QB Chad Henne (FA/18, KC) - U/R I have the Mahomes. I don't need anyone else. You're killing me, kccrow. You're stronger on offense, even though mine is pretty good, and I think you're better on defense, mostly because you've got Dee Ford and Justin Houston. But yeah, I think you're going to be drafting d-linemen and ILBs in bulk next year.

Here's the current roster of Chiefs draft picks for next year. https://www.prosportstransactions.co...ure/Chiefs.htm
I think I'm going to be without a fourth-round pick since I accepted the trade for Ragland, and I won't get the extra second-round pick because I rejected the trade for Marcus Peters. My main draft needs are: Starting WR, ILB, OLB and maybe G Future starters at LT and FS Backup QB and TE I've only got six picks, so I'll hope the Chiefs pick up some good free agents.

So it's getting to be a mess as far as draft picks and all of the trades we have to accept/decline. The Marcus Peters trade is one. I suppose now we also have Dee Ford, and if we've made all of those previous trades we have the option to trade for Clark - is that correct?

On a positive note, the Chiefs' free agent signings have been beautifully filling holes in my roster.

It occurred to me last night that it won't matter for me. I didn't draft Marcus Peters. That said, I wouldn't have accepted the Clark trade anyway, so no big deal.
