People really think that if, with a couple minutes left in the 3rd quarter, the Chiefs had a 2nd and 6 from their 39 instead of a 1st and 10 from the Texans' 46, the game would have gone differently. In the Ringer's winners/losers column, they straight up said that was the difference. ****ing ridiculous!

Texans score 12 points and lose in a play-off game. All of the rest of it is noise.

The unnecessary roughness call was the only iffy call, but it was right for two reasons;

#1 - One of the defenders made contact with Mahomes' helmet

#2 - The Texans are well known to be a dirty team that is looking to injure opposing players. The NFL knows this and the officials damn sure know this. It was clear that both of those defenders were very clearly trying to hit Mahomes in his helmet. One of them was legitimately trying to take him out, even Simms thinks that and so even if neither one made contact I think it's a good call.

#2 is the point I've been trying to make to everyone who complains about those calls. Texans whine about officiating but when you have a rep.....Just ask Trevor Lawrence.

If it was the same play and the defenders made attempts to miss and not target with headshots, the penalty probably doesn’t get called. The intent was too obvious

You show them data does not support that and KC is actually more penalized than most teams.

Then they say its all about WHEN they get the penalties which always help them get a big first down at the end of the game etc....

You ask when that scenario happened on Saturday, the most recent game they are all crying about.

Here’s the official snippet on the ‘body weight’ section of RTP from the rule book. They also could have felt like it just didn’t warrant a penalty.

A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as “stuffing” a passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided for in (a) above. When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player’s arms and not land on the passer with all or most of his body weight
