Reid's history has always been if the player can go, you play them.
The most likely thing seems to be be Kelce testing the knee in warmups, and if he feels good he'll be active but with a decreased workload.

If he plays I bet it's no more than 25 snaps.

That's what happened with Tyreek in that PIT game two years ago.

I am good with this as long as he is limited because KC is doing just fine without him.

If the game plays out where he is a highly needed weapon but he is limited because of the injury then he should just not suit up.

No need to play him week 1 unless he has no restrictions.

He could be used as a decoy. Bringing him into the game in a 4th down or a goal to go situation could be helpful even if he doesn't get the ball.

Huh?

That's absolutely Reid's thing.

Practice for a full week and MAYBE we'll activate you. McDuffie last year was a perfect example.

Now I think there may be some distinction between an injury that is prone to aggravation (the hammy) and what may potentially just be pain management for Kelce.

But Reid's MO with guys coming back from injury has always been fairly cautious. Hell, he kept Chris Jones out of a playoff game.

If you miss a practice, you probably aren't playing. We'll see if that holds for Kelce.

Missing "A" practice has never been a disqualifier to play. Missing most of the week practices yes.

And the thought process that it takes another week to get healthy means the player isn't ready to go. And as you stated risking further injury because a player isn't fully healthy isn't the same as sitting a player who isn't at risk of further injury.

Reid didn't hold Jones out, the training staff did. A calf injury is exactly the kind of thing you don't push. ( I couldn't remember why Jones was out and had to look it up)

Quote:
The Chiefs had Jones go through a pregame warmup under the watchful eye of training staff members. He was apparently deemed unready for action.

Read more at: https://www.kansascity.com/sports/nf...#storylink=cpy

If Kelce says he feels good to go in warm-ups, Reid will have hard time telling him no. Its not his style. The idea they are even waiting that long and letting him go through warmups is telling.

I say all this believing whether he thinks he can go or not he should sit tonight.

Now you're drawing lines between Reid and the training staff, as though the latter is not a reflection of the philosophy established by the former.

And ignoring a dozen different examples to the contrary.

Reid almost always requires a full week of practice. Yes, there are instances (Mahomes being the obvious one) where he'll let a guy play, but to say that as a general rule he's not conservative with injuries is just silly.

If there's an injury that runs the risk of aggravation and the player wasn't able to put in a full week of practice, he RARELY plays them that week. His usual rule is to be a full participant by the Wednesday practice but again, even a limited designation on Tuesday makes it no better than a coin flip scenario that a guy's going to play unless it's some sort of maintenance day.

Reid very much slow-plays guys returning from injury.
