With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

I don't know if DM can survive this Melky disaster. Especially once the playoffs come around. This is quickly devolving into one of the worst moves in the history of baseball.

And I don't care if we all thought it was a "good idea at the time". It's not our job to know this shit...it's his.

Certainly a horrendous move, not sure I'd call it the worst move in the history of baseball. It's still just one season. There are trades where legitimate HOF players were traded for guys who weren't that successful in return.

It's tough to take, and I wish I could say I saw this coming... but it was a reasonable trade and gamble at the time. Both guys with one year of control left. Both high risk players, but i would have thought the potential reward was much higher with Sanchez.

No, it isn't. It's turned out to be a bad trade and it freaking sucks.... but this doesn't even make the top 25 of bad trades all time.

I mean, if you're talking "worst trades ever," you're talking:
Babe Ruth for $100,000.
Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, Dick Simpson and Jack Baldschun.
Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio.
Nolan Ryan (+ many other pieces) for Jim Fregosi.
Joe Nathan and Francisco Liriano and Boof Bonser for A.J. Pierzynski.
The steaming pile of crap the A's got for Mark McGwire.
Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson.
Ivan DeJesus for Ryne Sandberg.
Randy Johnson for Mark Langston.
Scott Kazmir for 1/2 season of Victor Zambrano.
John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander.
Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps.
Steve Carlton for Rick Wise.

I'm talking the Lou Brock/John Smoltz type trades. Giving away HOF caliber players before their prime. Maybe we just did that... we'll see. Certainly a horrific trade, no doubt about it though. Long way to go before we start calling it the worst trade in history though.
