Super Bowl 58 Mic'd Up

Tayshaun Gipson says Mahomes "is just regular, bro, and we're going to make his a$$ look regular." The same guy who dropped an easy INT in the NFCCG a few years back.

Trash talk between Kelce and Ward

Where numbers are concerned, two-point conversions have been successful about 47.5% of the time that they’ve been attempted since 2015 i.e., roughly half of the extra point kick conversion rate which sits at 95%

https://en.as.com/nfl/what-is-the-tw...nd-the-play-n/

So, basically it's a coin flip on if you make the 2 point conversion. You expect Mahomes in that situation has a better chance than most.

I get the logic of getting the ball first for the 3rd possession, it doesn't take the QB on the other side of the field into account or them going for 2.

I wish the Chief's players didn't tell them what their plan was just in case we get into that situation in the future.

We don't have any historical data to get a feel for the actual probabilities, but it's likely gonna be somewhere between 40-60% probabilities for either approach. I still think kicking is the way to go, but it's not the 30-70% variation people are acting like it is.
Yeah, I heard a podcast where the dude quoted some analytics thing (I don't remember and didn't care to look it up at the time) where there was a 54% chance of winning if you kicked. That's barely anything, so it goes to the feel the coach has during the game. **** Shanarat and all, but you can't really hang this one on them. His players saying they didn't know the rules, yeah, that's on you Shanarat, but the call, nah.

Goddamn guys - will you EVER learn? These dudes have rabbit ears. They always have. Mahomes and Kelce take notes. Constantly. And they are going to use those to fuel them.

"Mahomes is regular" is one thing - that's the kind of stuff Pat will internalize and use to motivate him. But man "Everything about being in SF is better than KC" is just a no-go, Charvarius. Because a guy like Kelce is going to use that to motivate EVERYONE. He's going to take that as a slight to every single one of his teammates and coaches.

I think Mahomes knows he has a bit of that Jordan pettiness where he makes mountains out of molehills to fire himself up. But g'damn man, you don't call out their organization, coaches or teammates like that because those dudes will make it their life's mission to feed it to you.

Kelce wanted Ward to know he heard that shit and that he was going to remind him of it.
Compare that to what our guys are doing. On the sideline all the chatter is internal. "Be Great." "MORE" "It's ours, let's get it" that kind of stuff. I'm sure there is trash talk on the field, but everything that makes it out is stuff like "I'm coming for you dog" "all day" etc. Except Mahomes, who is all like "nice hit man". Even the "You woke up the wrong mother****er" shit which I LOVE is all about what's on the field.

There is a lot to be learned about how our main guys carry themselves.

With the new rules, if the 1st team scores a TD and kicks the XP, the opposing team is stupid if they score a TD and don't go for 2 to win it. You have the ball at the 2 yard line. I doubt if any of these games get to a 3rd possession unless it's FG/FG.

Yea, was watching the show on CW channel last night and Bosa knew what was coming. And he couldn’t do a damn thing to stop it. Andy and Nagy clowned him so much. Again. They did it in the regular season game last year and lured him like largemouth bass in the SB game.

I agree with that, but this was also the SB with the most FGs ever kicked. And if you assumed that that continued, and if your defense was exhausted, it's not the wrong call.

The very fact that there's a real debate over this and that it depends on the circumstances of the game tells you that the NFL got this right as no side has a clear advantage based on the outcome of the coin flip.

So if your mentality is to take the ball first so you get it third and can win in sudden death … wouldn’t that then mean that you:
1) use all 4 downs to score a TD
2) go for 2 when you do?

That’s the only way you’re guaranteed to get it third. Of course, if you don’t score or miss the 2 pointer, you’ve made it much easier for the other team to win…

This was my only thought on it. I can see the logic of trying to get the ball 3rd, but you have to be aggressive then. If you're sitting there at 4th and 4 inside the 10, you might as well go for it.

I can see still kicking the extra point and putting the pressure on the other team to make a tough decision, but you still have to be aggressive on offense to put the other offense under more pressure. They were basically assuming they could hold Mahomes to a FG.

True. Immediately after the game ended their fan base started debating if the new OT rules were unfair and suggesting changes. Basically another version of the Chiefs won so the rules are bad.

If you use all four downs and don't score, the other team just needs a field goal to win and end the game, right?
