The Curse of Oak Island
Has anyone else started watching this show? I am a sucker for this kind of thing and so far it has been very interesting. You can watch the first two episodes in the link below. Since this was filmed over the summer, if any of you have figured out what happens please use spoilers for anything that hasn't aired yet.
http://www.history.com/shows/the-curse-of-oak-island For those who aren't familiar, very briefly, it is about an island on the eastern shore of Canada that is rumored to have buried treasure from possibly the Knights Templar dating back to the 1300s. In 1795 an apparent secret hiding space was discovered in which levels of wooden planks were buried every 10 feet. Digging down around a hundred feet, they found some gold link chain and a few other things. Eventually they dug to a point that causes the hold to be flooded by sea water as if it was some sort of boobie trap, which is believed to come from some type of tube that is out in the ocean. Another person in the 1970s dug alongside the original hole but also got his hole flooded by sea water. These guys now who are on the show purchased most of the island and are trying to solve the mystery with help from the guys who dug their own hole in the 1970s. The hole curse aspect is just kind of meh and I don't really pay attention to it, but I am sure the producers just like the added element it presents. The mystery and adventure is really interesting. It is nice to see a show like this that is actually producing some results so far. |

I don’t really see it as a problem that they found the cross and wanted to add more weight to it. They could have simply found it, then went and looked at something similar (in TV time) and the result is still the same in that they have an old cross from Europe. It’s not necessary to present it how they did but it doesn’t really bother me. I don’t agree on the stone since that was across different seasons. I think they genuinely didn’t realize how much basement needed to be searched. Regarding the stone it’s clearly the one from the 1900s, but I’m doubtful it’s one from the money pit. |

I don’t really understand this sentiment. There has never been a guarantee they would find anything at all, much less actual treasure. I cannot think of another search or mystery like this that has ever been so thoroughly pursued in both time and money. They are genuinely doing their best to uncover the truth and I can’t get mad or upset about the results given it’s not really up to them if they find treasure. If they can at least uncover more evidence and shed more light on the who, the when, and the why that will still be pretty cool to me. That said, they are finding way more than I think people would have guessed and in my opinion are proving that at some point in the distant past something occurred there in secret involving treasure of some kind. And I think that’s pretty neat given these types of mysteries almost never get even this amount of evidence. Unfortunately I still don’t think they’ll find any sort of large treasure in the traditional sense. I think there was something there at some point and it got discovered by different people such as Samuel Ball and the original searchers. Don’t forget that one of the descendants of the original searchers has a very crude looking solid gold cross. Her ancestor and the others probably found something and over the decades it disappeared for the most part. Now in this episode tonight and the teaser for next week shows quite the construction of wood in Smith’s cove. Given what appears to be a large project in the past it’s no surprise someone might have lost their cross while building it. Last edited by mr. tegu; 01-08-2019 at 11:30 PM.. |

They're still digging down that rabbit hole? And people are still getting suckered in? ...
If they'd just bring in Nick Cage next season, they'd blow this sucker wide open...

How the hell are people still buying into this show? Those mother****ers are probably planting stuff so that people keep watching. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, people watch that Finding Bigfoot or whatever its called. Nothing will ever be found on that show.

I watch this show and I watched Finding Bigfoot. Did I think they were/are going to find anything? No. It was simply entertaining to me. I thought Finding Bigfoot was hilarious because of the shit they said that was definitively a bigfoot answering their howls or knocks. I watch stuff on the history channel to, get this.... learn things about history because its entertaining. Theres a bunch of stuff I've learned that have nothing to do with treasure from The Curse of Oak Island. |

To me at least, watching Oak Island is almost like watching Ancient Aliens.

Smith’s cove is certainly interesting. Again they keep finding things that are just out of place and point to something happening there, though what exactly may never be known.

Whatever was buried on oak island has been:
Already found by Samuel ball or other searchers in the past. Been destroyed by previous digs Been destroyed by sea water They may find some scraps here and there, but never a major treasure. But you know what’s funny? Their treasure is the millions they should make on this show...and the resources History has to aid them with in their quest. The brothers are extraordinary people. If anyone deserves to find something like treasure, those kinds of people will appreciate it. |

I heard last night on the radio that Dan Blankenship passed away Sunday. He was 95. I wish he could of held on til they found something to vindicate him.

I heard about that. Maybe he's the "7th searcher to die" so they can now find the treasure. Then again that other guy Fred Nolan already died before Blankenship. I think it was Nolan? Anyway, I had a feeling ol' Dan wouldn't last a whole lot longer. He was really old. Still pretty sharp and agile considering his age though.
