Its misleading though, yea Philly only gave up 7 in those wins but they scored 30+ in each win as well.

Would they have scored that much if their defense wasn't getting them the ball back, though?

Right, but it definitely lends to Clays assertion that they're frontrunners.

It makes me question their ability to compete in tight games. Do they choke? Do they have the mental wherewithal to hold it together against a proven clutch player like Mahomes?

Struggled by his standards for sure, but his QBR was still higher in 2024 than Lamar's 2023 MVP season (LOL).

But I would love to see the other big name QB's forced to play behind 4 different guys at Left Tackle in a single year. All the other people you might care to name have great stability and quality at the Left Tackle spot.

Not to mention the WR injuries.

In combination, for this team to still go 15-1 is insanity. Also why you have to feel really good about their chances.

The starting offense looked strong in those final 2 games against a couple of Playoff teams. Hollywood Brown seemed to make a pretty big difference.

It's never fully apples to apples but just imagine for a second what Lamar and Josh's respective seasons woulda looked like had they

1) Not had their Pro Bowl LTs, and instead a scab level player

2) Lamar lost Zay and Batemen virtually the entire year; Josh loses Shakir and whomever he perceives to be his #2

Don't even get me started on Burrow.

Stats aside, not a chance and hell they go 15-1. Couldn't do it with those guys!

It's pretty bizarre to me that these conversations still get had.
I love having a guy you can feel comfortable with despite a lead in the 4th quarter of a Super Bowl, but how much of that do you attribute to the Elway effect of just being decent for 3 quarters which requires a heroic 4th quarter comeback victory?

He went nuclear late in all of those games but was kinda ho hum early on.

He was pretty damn good the entire Eagles game. 96/100 QBR grade against a supposedly great defense.

It might have something to do with playing a SB defense

I guess Burrow is Marino? Good stats, spotty playoff resume, missed the playoffs during his prime with a loaded offense more often than you realize.

The problem with the comparison is that there wasn't SHIT around Montana beyond Marino in the 80s.
You could probably call Allen similar to Elway at a similar stage in their career? Would Jackson be Foutes? Incredible stats, little playoff success. Goff could be Simms? Got a good playoff run with a really good team. Occasionally looks spectacular, oftentimes is just a game manager. Could Stafford be Plunkett? Early career on bad teams, won a championship changing teams mid-career and caught fire for a post-season?

Some of the other guys like Moon and Kelly did most of their real damage in the 90s after Montana had aged out.

But the bottom line is that it really was Montana and then everyone else through the 80s. And Montana didn't always set the scoreboard ablaze or rack up gaudy stats, but he was the guy you wanted when it mattered.
Kinda. The difference would be that Montana wasn’t a roadblock for Marino like Mahomes is for Burrow. But I get what you mean.

Mahomes will have all of those by the time the AFC Championship Game is done.
