Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Lock up the 1 seed before Week 18, so Mahomes sits that one. He’d probably win it but I’d rather he not even play in it.

Then win 2 AFC playoff games and it’s a reality.

The first 2 sacks Sunday night were on Mahomes. He tried running from a clean pocket, because there was an opening and got brought down. There is not a thing the OL can do to prevent that. They did their jobs.

The 3rd on is definitely on the OL, though.

Just fyi, for those that think Mahomes is mostly responsible for the offense's issues and not the OL. This season his time-to-throw/before-pressure-collapses-the-pocket (PktTime) has been 2.3 seconds from the snap, per pfr. The least time since becoming the starter. Also, he's been sacked 35 times already this season. 7 more times than his most in any single season.

That's not to say he's been great about seeing the field, pulling the trigger on time, etc. But he definitely isn't getting a lot of time to see the field and make a decision, on average. So to those that have ben saying the OL/OTs have been adequate, well, that's simply not been the case.

Burrow at 2.1, Mayfield at 2.2.

PFR says the average is 2.2 which doesn't really make a ton of sense when you look at the ranking, but it looks like the median would definitely be 2.3.

In either event, it's not the catastrophic shit-show you might believe. It is, as I said in the Humphries thread, probably about average in relation to his peers.

This is football. You're gonna be under pressure. It can't be the reason for every ghost you see and pocket you flee.

If only we had Morris playing tackle.

I can’t speak for Burrow, but in Baker’s case, it’s been a necessity as his OL has been unable to hold up much longer than that. So they’ve been running a ton of screens and other short passes to compensate.

And again, I didn’t say it absolves Pat of all responsibility, but it’s fact that he’s had the least amount of time on average between snap and pressure in his career, which you would think would speed up his clock from what it was previously, no? And we can all agree that Morris/ Kingsley were less than average doing their jobs in terms of protection? I know you can having read your posts on that subject.

Well now, partner, I reckon Patrick Mahomes is quite the gunslinger out there on the field. He’s got a real flair and talent that reminds me of the best in the business. With that arm of his, he can make some mighty impressive throws, and he’s got the kind of poise under pressure that would make any cowboy proud. He knows how to lead his team, and that kind of spirit is what makes a champion. I reckon he’s a fella to watch, and he sure is making waves in that league. Just like in a good ol' western, you gotta respect a man who can stand tall when the stakes are high.

If only we had QBs like Joe Burrow and Baker Mayfield with courage under pressure in the big moments

Still one of my favorite all-time Mahomes games. Not just 4th and 9, but the first no look pass, and a ridiculous submarine delivery on an ad-lib play down the sideline to that dumpy little RB we used to have that never played a meaningful down anywhere else in the NFL.
