Do we want DeHop?
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21
Story by Andrew Gould The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins. NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first. After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason. Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June. Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy. Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season. Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Do we want a high priced prima donna? |

I have my reservations about dhop too. I don't think that one is a slam dunk. that story is different if Mike Evans is available for a reasonable contract. Or if players like Keenan Allen or Corey Davis hit the market. Every bandaid is going to come with some level of risk. Thats how you get someone to sign someone reasonable. And since we just need a spot filler that is more than fine.

Put me in the column that thought getting rid of Peters was addition by subtraction. "We" sure did not flip out over it.

Man, you have to actually play the kids to develop them. Signing 30 year old WR's doesn't aid that process. That's how you get a bunch of internet GM's claiming Skyy Moore is a bust because he only caught 25 balls as a rookie or whatever.
We're going to have to get used to not always having proven production at certain position groups, and it's probably going to move around from year to year. It's the best way to build your roster. There are risks, but you have to trust your scouting and coaching. |

Sure we won't have proven production at certain position groups. It doesn't move around from year to year. OT and WR have been persistent issues for several years. And we walk into this season with even bigger question marks. If we have to start Donovan smith because we didn't address the RT issue long ago, that is not ideal no matter how much people want to massage it.I get that now we are actually trying but I'm tired of the idea that mahomes has to just deal with it because he's blessed with greatness. At some point we have to finally address these areas for him instead of asking him to deal with the constant OL issues and the frustration he shows when his WRs keep missing their spots. If these guys aren't fully ready we don't need to subject mahomes to that if we don't have to. |

As it sunk in and reality came to the front the majority became okay with it and even realized it was probably for the best. Since when has over reaction Planet been right in those opinions? It is never. Just an other reason for posters to realize they don't know what they think they do.

I think our current receivers are going to silence all the fools.

I don't know how they will perform. I think expectations are low and that any success will be because of Mahomes. There will be another area that disappoints that the fans here will be more disappointed about.

Honestly I wonder if actually drafting Rice makes a Hopkins trade an even better chance of happening IF the Cards are ok with a 2024 pick?
I mean it seems the biggest hiccup was Veach needed either the Cards to pickup $10M of his salary or Dehop to take $5M and Card take $5M. Which neither wanted to do. Now with adding Rice and how I agree these young WRs need to play to develop doesn't this make a guy like MVS and his $7M saved cap hit if traded turn into the perfect tool to get a Hopkins trade done? Hell see if Cards will still do just the $5M cash, take MVS($7) for now a total of $12M saved instead of the $10M Veach was looking for. Now maybe throw in WGJ if those rumors were true to get the deal done and a mid round 2024 pick. Seems perfect if you ask me |

As for 'not ready', yeah, well, I offer (once again!) the case of Christian Watson, who was clearly 'not ready' early in the season but season's end was a TD machine. Man, he was terrible early on, but when it clicked for him, it clicked big time. Now GB has a stud. Skyy had 4 veteran WR's in front of him. Highly unlikely ANY rookie is going to grasp this offense well enough to outperform the veterans right out of the gate. In year two? Sure. I bet he does great. This WR room is not 'thin' on anything but proven production. Not in skillsets, not in talent, not in potential. Some of these guys are going to be very good, and some will probably disappoint, but there are enough of them in the mix to be pretty confident that we'll be fine. And 'fine' by Mahomes/Reid/Veach standards means AFCCG's at a minimum. The 'band-aid' WR's, by the way, are already in place with James and Watson. Those are your insurance policies. It's going to be fine. |
