Funny thing [to me]. That episode of The Reassembler aired about a month after I did the exact same thing to my Craftsman mower.
Sears database of blowup diagrams is a helluva thing. My mower [bought new in 1999] blew a housing gasket, so I took it down to every nut bolt, spring and tube sorted and separated on a table. Put it back together with the next gasket and every part spec-ed out and cleaned thoroughly. Started first pull and continues to be reliable to this day [except I hit a big rock hiding in the lawn along the alley and bent the mulching blade, so I replaced that this summer]. |

I was suggesting that his 13 YO do it, betting he would not have laid it out so neatly" hence the "when you're not anywhere to be found" part.
My dad came home from work to find our mower, early 70's, torn down in a not so neat manner, with a note stating it needed a head gasket, a couple of o-rings, and an optional drainable float bowl. w/ part numbers. It was running like shit days before and he was putting off taking the mower to the shop in favor of beer money. I know he wanted to beat my ass but a trip to Kansas Power Equipment on 38th and for less than $1 it was mowing the grass the next day. He, nor my mother, ever said a word about it to my face ever again.

I was suggesting him doing it on his own, without knowledge or consent.

Not really a car guy but starting to look around for a replacement for my daily driver. Currently have a manual 2008 Corolla S which I bought new. Car has been great to me with minimal maintenance but I'm starting to notice some shimmying and feel like it might be getting towards the point where it'll be needing more maintenance in the future.
Thinking of going up toward a midsize instead of the compact. Just need something comfortable. I'd be looking to own this just as long as my corolla as I'm not one to swap every couple years. Anyone have any thoughts?

I’m kind of out of the midsize car market but The wife had a Buick Regal sometime ago that I liked. It was underpowered but it was a good vehicle. |

I would replace ball joints to see if that fixed it..it’s not a huge expense and if it fixes your problem then you don’t have to buy a new car..if it doesn’t fix it you aren’t out much and you can use it to help regain you some money if you sell it or trade it back in

As far as underpowered, that's what I'm kind of afraid of. I'm not a speed demon by any means but the reason I got the manual in the corolla was so I could use the limited power more effectively. I'd rather avoid being too underpowered if at all possible. I understand that I may be limiting myself here though.

Other guys might disagree but I’d get out. There are options out there that are not underpowered but you really have to figure out what motor options are available and just make sure you’re towards the top of the options. However a lot of the vehicles on the road aren’t so if you’re looking used it limits your options. I will say I was cranky about being underpowered but I will fully admit the transmissions make that a lot easier to stomach. It was pretty snappy until you got at higher speed where it needs the power. And it is truly ****ing maddening when you get out on the interstate and make it go 80 the fuel mileage goes to shit. It is strictly a function of the fuel mileage regulations they puked out and the fax that EPA does their fuel mileage calculations at like 50 MPH. |

sooooooooo one good day of weather and im hot on race car shit again.
Since the TA and bobber are both "done", I am getting really hot on a single cab short bed RWD truck. Like, I am going to buy one. If anyone has a lead on one please PM it to me, would like to buy one by Tuesday if possible. I have been running into tons of 4wd trucks, really expensive newer trucks, or people who are just flakey. Im looking for 99+ single cab, short bed, 2wd chevy or gmc (prefer chevy) with a 5.3 liter motor, or one that has been motor swapped to a 6.0 etc. Truck has to be ready to drive, and in fairly decent shape body wise. Miles do not matter. Prefer black but would look at any color. 10k or under, in MO or just near the border. Clean titles only. @SAUTO??? final result should be something like this Just gotta find the truck to start on. |
