I guess I am just not sure about getting one. I mean regardless of whether I just keep the same plug or do the valve, I still have to get under the car. This would be a bit easier, however but does have more risks.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Lots of professional drivers have them on (trucks and stuff).

I had them in my transfer pumps because I have them mounted on a trailer and I had to run a hose out so the oil wouldn’t run on the deck.

Me personally, I just loosen the oil filter before I pull the plug, then put on cheapie latex gloves and pull the plug then the filter. All I have to do then is toss the gloves and clean up my 15 wrench.

Is there a reason you want a valve?

The valves allow for more material (crap) to sit on the bottom of the pan when drainingas effectivly you have reduces a 7/16" hole to a 1/4".

I am not a fan for that reason but "IF" I were to use one it would be a Stahlbus unit. or if space allows the Dragon system.

I would used heat shrink tubing or a hose clamp for the hose. Snap it in the drain and forget it about it ever having a problem.

In a modern day engine where debris is not as much of an issue, It may not be as important but,,, I would still like to pull the plug and stick a magnet in the pan which is something I think these systems defeat.

Yea I think I am just going to put a new drain plug in and skip the valve. I don't change the oil frequently enough to get much benefit from the valve. Plus, since the car is lowered, I'd have to jack the car up anyway to reach the valve, meaning I might as well just keep the plug. The auto parts store didn't have a magnetic drain plug though. Any way I can make in magnetized?

the easy way or the hard way?

Easy, get on line and buy one, but buy several as they lose power over time and temp.

Al ittle harder but one of these. I have this in my car.http://www.drainplugmagnets.com/mercedesbenz.php

I thought drainplugs had magnets on the end. Mine do.

Why are you wanting to swap the plug? Did you round it off?

From what I can tell and know about the car, it's original.

Something about that just makes me nervous.

What makes you nervous? The original drain plug? The only drain plug I’ve ever replaced ever is one on a tractor some fool not named Buehler445 rounded off with a crescent wrench. Why they were using crescent wrenches on my drain plug you ask? Reasons. That’s ****ing why.

Anyway, what is making you nervous?

A drain plug is definitely in the "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" category.

I don't know enough about cars to know why I think like I do on something like this.

So it's the drain plug? I wouldn't worry about it.

If it has been overtightened the threads might be stretched close to the bolt head.

If it has been crossthreaded the end will be dinged up and won't start worth a ****.

If the head is rounded off it won't fit the wrench (always use box end)

The flange needs to not be bent or it won't hold well.

Other than that you're good.

I do suggest that you look into getting a good magnet as I showed you, otherwise you should test the magnet. They do break down with time and temperature as per the video.

Before they made it to where you couldn't put a pack of smokes under the hood, I used to use external oil filters and and coolers.

Lewdog what do you drive?
