Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

It’s not an issue whith what I’m reading here but, it’s worth mentioning to you and others who are new to ARs - make sure it is chambered for the 5.56. If it is only chambered for the .223 it will only feed .223 but, a 5.56 chambering will feed both.

Outstanding!

Now all you need is a good red dot optic/scope and some back up iron sights and you're good to go.

Yeah I'm looking at dots and scopes now. The holosun green I have on my VP9 works well but if I'd known it was Chinese I never would have bought it.

If anyone has any thoughts on optics for an AR I'm all ears.

I have a Leupold VXR 1.25-4 on one of my ARs and it's great. It's pretty much the best of both worlds. Has an illuminated red dot, and functions pretty much the same as a standard red dot at the 1.25x magnification. But is also an effective long range scope at 4x. You're not going to be sniping people a mile away; it's more than enough. And if the battery fails, you'll still have the scope reticle to fall back on.

Get that with a good quality mount and you'll be good to go.

Nice. Looks like they aren’t making that model anymore but they have some suggested models that replaced it. I like the idea of a dot and a scope.

Id look at some of ATN digital night vision scopes. Before you buy glass.
1 shot zero. Can be programed for multiple rifles, built in ballistics, records your hunt on to a memory card.
But best of all. It's digital and can be used in daylight.
Sun is a big No No with traditional night vision.

Thermal is even better. If you have the coin

The years are starting to catch up with my vision. I can't shoot at distance as effectively with an unmagnified red dot as I could just a couple of years ago, even with corrective lenses. It really sucks for me because there was a time when I had better than 20/20 vision naturally.

I don't know how old you are, but if you're in the 40s/50s range it's something to consider.

Old man eyes are a bitch.

Unless you're planning to go to Afghanistan or something, for affordable quality optics I like Vortex Optics.

This page at OpticsPlanet has several that I've had over the years.
