The Pioli Watch Thread

I'm hijacking the thread starter to use for an "updates" area. Sorry cardken. Here are a few recent updates:

Pioli would find a warm welcome in Kansas City. At the last Chiefs' home game, shortly after the embattled Carl Peterson resigned after 20 years as president, general manager and CEO, several signs were spotted in the crowd proclaiming, "We want Pioli." Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Stats can be very deceiving sometimes. A perfect example is Mike Maslowski. I remember when he had well over 150 tackles 1 year and thats amazing for a MLB. But if you ask me, at best he was an average player. Chiefs defense was on the field alot.

If your defense is on the field alot, which for the Chiefs is often the case, a lot of those guys are gonna pileup and get tackles.

Our DE's suck. I agree. I see what you're trying to say, great DE's can make a DT job a lot easier. I agree, But then that could go vice versa. So imo can't really use that analogy.

A really really dominating DT in the middle can make average DE's into solid players. It works both ways. If we had JA, maybe Dorsey woulda been playing a lot better in the middle? but now that JA is gone, I think thats part of the reason Dorsey was drafted to be that centerpiece on the DL. to freeup the DE's and the LB's to make plays. But it hasn't happened and there is no excuse when your team finished the season with 9 sacks and can't stop the run worth anything.

I was listening to Petro's show a little while ago, and I heard Curtis (I think) say something about a Pioli update, but Petro didn't stop talking. I think Curtis's comment was not supposed to come across the air. Did anyone else hear it? Has there been anything said since? I had to turn the radio off shortly after.

Yes, but you can't realistically expect that type of play (making players around you much better than they really are) from a rookie DT.

If I had too choose just one of our D-Line... it would be Dorsey.

Again like others say cant blame all this on him. I personally blame CP, Herm, Gun and Dick.

Reguardless of if we get Piolo, and somehow Herm's allowed too stay. GUN and that entire Defensive staff better be GONE.

If that's 810, then it's just the one guy in the background saying "Still no Pioli." They've been doing it the whole show.

Yes. I will not be satisfied with anything else. But the 2ndary guy can stay although he'll probably be signed by whoever he was interviewing with.

Don Banks in SI.com:

"Just trying to put two and two together, but it would seem to me that McDaniels getting hired in Denver somehow helps his AFC West rival Herm Edwards' chances of surviving another year as Kansas City's coach.

With McDaniels, the former Patriots offensive coordinator, off the job market, maybe potential Chiefs general manager hire Scott Pioli wouldn't be as inclined to make an immediate coaching change. Then again, maybe Edwards remains because Pioli wouldn't be as inclined to take the Chiefs GM job if he can't bring in McDaniels as his head coach.

• If Pioli and the Chiefs don't wind up striking a deal, here's a name to keep track of in Kansas City's quest to replace general manager Carl Peterson: Mark Dominik. He's Tampa Bay's 37-year-old director of pro personnel, and he not only grew up in Kansas and attended the University of Kansas, but also he began his NFL career as a Chiefs scouting intern in 1994.

Dominik and Chiefs interim president Denny Thum, who is heading K.C.'s search for a general manager, have known each other for years, and Dominik is well respected throughout the league for his personnel judgment. He is largely credited with the Bucs' signing last year of receiver Antonio Bryant, who went on to a breakout season as Tampa Bay's No. 1 pass-catcher in 2008."

No, it was a joke.

They were purposely mumbling these supposed Pioli updates in the background, making light of the complaints from listeners that they aren't talking about it enough.

Oh, and if the coaches/GM were really counting on a ****ing rookie DT to be the centerpiece of the DL right away then they are stupid and should be shot. We just said that Okoye had an impact year as a rookie DT. Okay, yeah, but he wasn't the centerpiece! He had 5.5 sacks! And he's considered to have an amazing rookie year!
