In a game the Chiefs lost by six points, Alex Smith missed three wide open TDs

And yes he had a clean pocket on the second one.

When has this happened before...against the Steelers...in a crucial game....

Spoiler!

Flame away.

When the Steelers start twice inside of their own 5 and we don't get the ball until much later and a lot further down field...yeah, they do. I think you're starting to get it a little.

As for the defense... I really don't know what else to say beyond to looking at the box score and seeing that they kept the Steelers under the league average so far this season as well as the average for the last few years. Pitt got a touchdown off of a fluke play in the second half and were contained to a touchdown and a field goal. IMHO that's pretty remarkable considering the offense had a net total of six yards in that same span.
shit ill give you credit

i didnt see a single thing i disagreed with

considering we didnt make a 1st down for like 3 quarters , i am stunned we were in a position to win the game at the end only to have andy fo for it on 4th and a long 2.

what a shit show

The offense as a whole was awful. Strategically that falls a lot on the front office and Reid; the former because the best offensive skill players Dorsey/Veach/whomever have managed to find via the draft have been a physical specimen but headcase tight end, a fast as **** gadget player and the running back diamond in the rough rookie; the latter because for all of his acclaimed genius as a playcaller, he hasn't managed to make chicken salad from the chicken you-know-what personnel the front office has provided. Wilson, Conley, Harris or whoever you wanna throw at me are pretty much the definition of JAG replacement-level players anywhere else in the league.

Who the **** ever is calling the defensive shots for Pitt figured it out today: in shut down the running game and make Alex beat you.

Now, the narratives in play here are going to provide the litany of reasons why Alex didn't beat the Steelers this afternoon: injuries, offensive line, shitty receivers, dropped passes and defense.

Injuries are what they are: hopefully you have the coaching staff that can mask deficiencies.

Offensive lines are what they are, and clearly the Chiefs' O-line has been degraded by injury so the aforementioned obviously applies, but a failure in this facet of the game can be attributed to coaching. Further, the proliferation of spread offenses have degraded across the board so it's pretty fair to say that almost every team in the NFL has a shit line. Again, that comes back to coaching.

The state of the Chiefs receiving corps is mostly on the FO and coaching staff but amplified by what Smith brings to any team with his style of play. This has been rehashed constantly here and I won't bother with regurgitating it here.

Dropped passes, which obviously is a product of a largely shit receiving corps, are attributable to the guys being targeted by throws but at the end of the day have a bit of 'luck' applied to them as well as pass placement by the QB. You come to your own conclusions as to what with wrong with that today.

I think the early offensive play calling was due to injuries. I think they were in a tentative mode. They weren't sure what to expect with such an inexperienced WR corp and instead of just running the playbook like they have been, I think they went into the old Chiefs shell. They didn't help themselves at all and I blame a lot of that on the coaching. They played not to lose the game early and it showed.

As far as the defense, they got worked over. They couldn't get off the field. They couldn't generate good field position and and they allowed the Steelers to control the game offensively even if they didn't score. In other words, they didn't do an injured offense any favors by generating shorter fields or getting the Steelers off the field in timely fashion. We saw it with the very first drive. Bell ran all over us today.

The worst part might be that our coaches are too old and slow to make adjustments. I get "stick with the game plan", but to die by it is a bit much.

yet the defense holds the steelers to 10 in the 1st half despite zero 1st downs by the offense , holds them to a shutout most of the second half and only allows 17 the whole game and somehow this game is on the defense

come on man
Ever hear of time of possession? The defense couldn't get off the field to give the offense a chance in the first half. It isn't just about holding them to 10 points, you also have to stop them and not let them dominate time of possession to give your offense more chances to score. The defense failed big time on this.

oh thats funny I thought we held them to 10 points, and got off the field so the offense had the ball around 6 times with no 1st downs...and only 3 points that came off of a muffed kick

I also thought we chucked the ball backwards out of the endzone

I didnt realize the 1st half was all the defens'es fault

1 safety
2 fg (off of a turnover/recovery from special teams)
3 punt
4 punt
5 punt
6 end of half on downs--no points

net offense points they got on their own: -2

how many yards did we rush for in the 1st half by the way? Pass yards? 1st downs?

I bet you really thought alex graded out perfect in that 1st half, eh Lil Chiefy?

thanks for letting me know about time of possesion. I am really happy to know that only the defense is in control of time of possesion and that the offense doesnt matter for T.O.P.

You really are a genious

JFC, it's the same reeruned bullshit as after the playoff game. Maybe if the ****ing offense does something like at least gain first downs and sustain some drives the circus catch possession never even happens. Or maybe not miss open receivers for TDs or shit like that? **** yes, the offense failed in this game. The defense wasn't stellar, but just like the playoff game, they played well enough to win. The offense didn't. Christ.

I disagree completely. The defense did NOT play well enough to win. The proof? WE DIDN'T WIN.

At the start of the season did anyone here expect us to be 5-1? Did anyone here expect us to beat Pittsburg, who has owned us for years? I think not. But everyone is butthurt that we finally lost a game to a team that everyone expected us to lose to not that long ago.

I remember a lot of the same people bitching today predicting we would be 3-3 at this point at best. It shows it is just impossible to please some people, who actually seem to enjoy losing so they can say "I told you so!".

Alex didn't play good, OL did not run block well, the play calling wasn't the best (although the half time adjustments were decent), many dropped balls in the first half really handcuffed the O. But Jesus titty ****ing Columbus, the D was horrible! They forgot to tackle. We need a sack and Houston is in pass coverage, I don't get it.....
