50 Beers to Try Before You Die

Thought the beer snobs here might like this article (and probably critique the hell out of it).

http://www.wisdeo.com/articles/view_post/2984
(CBS) You've heard of "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"?

How about 50 to try before you die?!
Spoiler!

The wife just got back from Colorado and brought me a 4-pack of Funkwerks Tropic King. Daaaaamn. Really nice.

Also brought me back a 750 of their Punch, a wine barrel aged Saison. I haven't opened it yet.

I had the Tropic King and Nelson Sauvin in Houston last weekend. I preferred the Sauvin, but both were very good.

I just left Parish Brewing with a case of Ghost in The Machine. I got such good stuff in return last time I gave away bottles, that I'm looking to do trades this time. These were bottled just five days ago. Anyone interested, just let me know. I'll send them out as quick as possible.

I would but I only have Yuengling Black & Tan at the moment and I am very much not a IPA fan.

I'd be interested. Nothing that special locally to trade, but I do have access to 3 Floyds.

I do still have 6 2015 BBQs, but I'm not sure that I want to part with them. The 2015s didn't blow me away and I'm hoping a little age will help that.

Got a lovely package in the mail today. Now for the good/bad news. Surprisingly, the 3rd place I called had some Zombie Dust, so that will be heading your way shortly. The bad news part is they had a 2 bottle limit, so I don't get any! Really thought it would take me longer to get some for you, but luck is on your side.

Grand Rapids Brewing Company: Had lunch and beer. Honey Brown Ale was pretty good.

Founders: Had Dirty Bastard and Mango Magnifico. Magnifico is a dangerous beer 10% ABV with not a hint of alcohol taste. Tasted like a Mango- tamarind punch with a spicy kick at the end.

Elk: Got a flight of ESB, Hefeweizen, cream soda ale, amber ale, and coffee stout. Coffee stout was the best. Hefeweizen was most disappointing as it was weak. Cream Soda ale was odd. Sweet up front, then beer bitterness, then a cream soda vanilla aftertaste.

Brewery Vivant: Had Wit, Raspberry ale, Malt Guild, and hard cider. The cider was the best very tart and dry. Everything was good. Wished they distributed outside of Michigan.

Harmony Brewing and Pizza: Had Grand Jubilation which was a Berliner Weisee half and half with lemonade. Very good and sour. The lemonade wasn't sweet so it didn't come off as cloying.

Ranked:

Founders
Brewery Vivant
Harmony
Grand Rapids Brewing
Elk
I just got home from a business trip to Grand Rapids and did a 5 Michigan breweries in 5 days self challenge.

Brewery Vivant - great taproom (old funeral home) and friendly people. Good beers, just not my preferred styles.

Founders - I've been before but it's another good taproom. Tried a couple experimental hopped beers and BA reDANKulous

Bell's - swung through Kalamazoo on my way home. Of course had to get a Two Hearted at the source

Tapistry - eh, across the street from Transient Artisan Ales

Transient Artisan Ales - finally got a chance to visit their taproom. Super raw space, but his barrel aged releases are on point. Highly recommend any TAA beers you can find.

I brought a haul of MI beers home with me, mostly Odd Sides we don't get here and some Jolly Pumpkins. There's certainly worse places to travel for work.

Transient is really, really good. They were pouring at a 2nd Shift festival in New Haven that I went to last year. Barrel aged saisons all day, and nobody had a clue who they were so there was never a line. I chatted them up for a while and got pretty trashed from the massive pours they were hooking me up with.

Anyone ever drink RoughTail's stuff? They're out of OK. Just released a beer called Adaptation 5 that rivals Tree House, Tired Hands and Trillium's haze bombs. It's almost like drinking some orange juice/pungent IPA hybrid.

I've been on the waiting list for his Illinois membership since I moved here. I jumped at the chance to join the Michigan membership when he opened his taproom. Some of his stuff is starting to show up at the better shops in Chicago.

I thought it was funny yesterday at the taproom, he's got this incredible barrel aged thing going, which people obviously do love. But he just released a NEIPA called Juice Is Loose and people were stiff arming old ladies to walk out with cases of it.

I admittedly bought a 4pk as its a legit hazy, soft mouthfeel, hop juice bomb.

Holler if you want to do any trades for KC area stuff. I would love to be able to get anything from Transient.

Went to a local place that does NY style pizza. Small place and they only had about 10 craft beers on tap. I took a look at the tap handles and to my shock, one says Boulevard!

Was the Boulevard Radler. Girl working had no idea about it and gave me a free pint of it. LOL. Looked it up and it's a ginger and lemon beer. Very light, probably pretty girly for all the macho guys in this thread. Surprised that of all the Boulevard beers, they had this one. Great summer beer though like most shandy style beers and good tartness. I really liked it and paid $2.50 for the second pint.

My buddy and I visited Great Raft in Shreveport yesterday.

They had some really good beers. Their Grace and Grit DIPA was very good. They didn't have any bottles, but I had two or three glasses on tap. I'm gonna monitor their Facebook page to find out when they brew it next.

They released Oceans Between Us Batch 002 yesterday. It's a Brett IPA with Galaxy hops. The Brett is strong in that one. It was good. I bought eight bottles of that and 4 bottles of their Farmhouse Slang Batch 001. Anyone looking to try either, hit me up for a trade.

If anyone is ever near Shreveport, I recommend stopping by.
