Used to read all of those, but have really lost interest in sci-fi, fantasy & poetry the last several years... Tom Clancy, Stephen King, Rice, Koontz, whoever wrote the Dark Elf series, Jim Morrison, Khalil Gibran, whatever fiction... none of that interests me in the least anymore.
It seems the older i get the more i just want to use my reading time to understand real people, events, places, cultures etc. My book tip for the day, an old favorite, Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl. |

My favorite genre is probably historical military fiction. I'm a big fan of Steven Pressfield - Gates of Fire is one of my favorite books.
I also read historical non-fiction, along with some sci-fi and fantasy. |

Check out 'One Very Hot Day' by David Halberstam, sold as fiction but its mostly true in the sense that its basically a mishmash of different experiences he actually had in vietnam as a journalist, with the names changed.

I really liked his ancient world stuff, particularly Gates of Fire (about the Spartans and the Battle of Thermopylae, from the viewpoint of a Spartan slave). Also The Afghan Campaign (from the viewpoint of a foot soldier under Alexander) and Last of the Amazons. I like Jeff Shaara's stuff, too.

The only book I like better than Gates of Fire is the original Dune, and just barely.
From Wikipedia: Gates of Fire is on the Commandant of the Marine Corps' Reading list. It is taught at West Point and Annapolis and at the Marine Corps Basic School at Quantico at Virginia Military Institute and at Brophy College Preparatory. |

People don't read for entertainment much these days. Honestly, I don't as much as I used to. I'll go months without picking up a book. But I always get the urge back.
I like horror, fantasy, and the occasional non fiction that catches my interest. I'm a sucker for stuff like Bruce Campbell's "If Chins could Kill : Confessions of a B Movie Actor" Right in my wheelhouse. I like real physical books though... don't know that I'll ever really get into e-books. |
