Do we want DeHop?
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21
Story by Andrew Gould The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins. NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first. After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason. Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June. Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy. Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season. Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Do we want a high priced prima donna? |

Yeah, I get why teams pulled in and out of interest. I doubt taking on the rest of his contract is a very big part of it. If teams are upset about a salary dump I imagine that’s more a comment of Arizona still hard lining on draft picks for a guy they clearly don’t want to pay than it is resentment that Arizona won’t pay off part of his contract.

The HC, QB, and owner/GM all have unrealistic expectations. Usually a shared mindset is a positive thing...

Um, no. Travis isn't a WR. I don't think you appreciate the difference.

Nick Wright talked about it a little in his podcast, don't know if he mentioned it on his show. In fact, during his mock draft episode or whatever it's called, in one of them he has KC trading their 2nd round pick for DHop (plus something, I forget what now). But he talks for a second about why he thinks ARI won't trade Dhop before the draft. Strategically it makes a lot of sense

And this helps the value of their player? Uh, I would think WR's might get cut after the draft and teams don't have to trade for Hopkins. They'll either have drafted one or can wait to see who shakes loose.

What could Hopkins teach our young WRs that TEs can't? |

I mean, to this point, no teams have agreed to give ARI what they're demanding, right? It looks like several teams have bid less. So, if you're ARI FO waiting until the draft could be worth waiting for, to see if any teams change their minds about how valuable DHop would be to them if things don't go well for them in the first round of the draft. Or, and I just remembered this was an option mentioned, let's say there's a team that got exactly what they wanted in the first round. But now they have a need at WR, but they don't think they can get a good one in the 2nd round because they aren't picking high enough. They could be in the market at that point to trade their 2nd round pick for DHop. Again, it's a theory out there.

That isn't the issue for me. If Toney didn't have any injury concerns, Hopkins would be a great signing. But Toney is obviously a big question mark going forward. Which is why I am not keen on putting a lot of resources into an aging WR who may or may not be as available or may or may not continue to play at a high level. I would rather have seen somebody who maybe has a lower ceiling but a higher floor as far as age/injury. Or somebody cheaper. Although outside of the draft, not sure what options are left.

The Hopkins trade is one of only a few things the Cardinals have won. About the only thing the owner has when the big spoiled brats get to together at league meetings and measure dicks. They may only be rubbing noses in it to begin with

Do you not see that TEs don't run certain routes that WRs run? There are routes that Travis doesn't run, particularly boundary routes, as an example. Or notice how Travis runs his routes vs. how a WR would run the same route? I mean, there's a pile of differences between how defenses scheme against TEs vs. WRs, concepts, as well as the fact that Travis always has the physical advantage vs. any defender 1v1., etc. WRs don't always have that.
