***OFFICIAL Chiefs vs Chargers Game Day Thread***

At long last, an incomparable and unparalleled day is upon us, Planeteers.

The Patrick Mahomes II Era begins with this game. May the Bolts fizzle and sputter as expected and may the New Chiefs begin their rise to greatness in dramatic fashion.

In lieu of a bunch of secret spoiler deals, I have composed a brief poetism in honor of the occasion. May it meet with your approval. Ahem ...

There once was a kid named Mahomes
Who had truly unique chromosomes
The Bolts were aghast
When the Chiefs scored so fast
And Mahomes incapacitated their ohms

There you have it, Planeteers. Go Chiefs!

(Sorry if re-post.)

I'm not as worried about this defense as I was during the game. First game of the season, 100 degree heat and against one of the best offenses in the NFL. Yeah, you can look at the yards and the points but a lot of that was garbage time. You can sit here and blame Sutton's scheme but a good majority of the issues were personnel either ****ing up their coverage or not tackling. That will get ironed out. Do we have the 85 Bears defense? No. But we don't have the worst defense in the history of the NFL. They're just going to get tested a lot because of this offense.

If/when Eric Berry comes back he will come back with a vengeance and this defense will be much improved and can make up for Sutton's scheme because Eric Berry is a general on the field. I just don't know if we can count on him as he has missed a lot of games for his career. His return will give me hope this defense can come together .

We beat the shit out of them through 3 quarters and then played prevent. It was 31-12 at the end of the 3rd.

Garbage time stats

That doesn't take into account that they also dropped numerous passes through 3 quarters. That kind of skews the stats in our favor.

KC defense wore down. You can’t argue that. They were on the field a ton and it showed when up 38-20 and in the 4th quarter

Couple of takeaways regarding the defense:

1. Run defense looked adequate- not dominating but definitely held their own.
2. I thought Steven Nelson had a real nice game. I was worried how Nelson, Scandrick and everyone not named Fuller was going to perform but I thought Nelson was strong for most of the game.
3. Hitchens had some up and downs- he did a real nice job of sniffing out a few screen passes and absolutely blowing them up. Struggled a little bit on some of the plays where he was man on man with Gordon though.
4. Nice to have Parker back in the fold- played well and gives us more stability at the safety position until Berry returns.

The defense doesn't have to be dominant for this Chiefs team to be successful but holding the Chargers to 12 points in the first 3 quarters is a real good start. It would have been interesting to see how the defense was going to react if the Chargers didn't muff that punt, that was a game changer.

Good start.

Yeah, through the first three quarters we were holding them on a pace to only have 424 yards of offense.

A bit more context though, with the punt return, the long TD's etc, that's gonna put your d on the field a lot more.

Scandrick is Amerson but a bit better.

Having him as our 3rd CB is a disaster waiting to happen.

Teams will literally target him.

I still don't get how Veach managed the whole CB position this offseason. Not good.

I remember the first play and thinking "**** Hunt missed a hole there on a cutback".

Upon second look, he did.

The only thing I would question is why he drafted a DE over a CB in the 2nd? Perhaps he saw greater value?

I doubt he wanted to trade Peters. His hands were tied there.
