***Official 2024 Paris Olympics Thread***
Watching the Olympics? Post about it here.
A quick intro.... 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony: Start time, TV channel, date, live stream, key athletes and events The 2024 Olympic Games begin July 26 and will be televised on NBC through Aug. 11 It's the time once again. It's time for the best athletes in the world to come together and crown champions in their various sports. The 2024 Olympic Games are set to begin this week in Paris as the world descends upon France. While there will be some qualifying events taking place earlier in the week, things officially kick off on Friday with the Opening Ceremony. The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Friday and feature several firsts, including being the first ceremony to be held outside of a stadium, as well as a parade of athletes held on the Seine River with boats for each national delegation. The boats will travel along a 3.7-mile stretch, passing by many iconic Parisian landmarks along the way. The ceremony will conclude with remarks from French President Emmanuel Macron. Expect another gold-filled summer for the Americans as Team USA will be represented in just about every event over the course of the Games. Some of the biggest stars are back, including gymnast Simone Biles, decorated swimmers Katie Ledecky and Caleb Dressel, as well as track athletes Noah Lyles and Sha'carri Richardson. Plus, the men's and women's basketball teams look to extend their dominant runs at the games with more gold. There will be two flag bearers for the United States when the team takes the boat down the Seine River -- LeBron James and tennis star Coco Gauff. The 2023 US Open champion was stunned by the news when it was revealed to her on Wednesday. "I never thought in a million years I would have the honour of carrying the American flag for Team USA in the opening ceremony," Gauff said in a statement. "I could not be more proud to lead my teammates with LeBron as we showcase our dedication and passion on the biggest stage there is." Here's how to watch the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony and highlights from the first week of competition. Quote:

Well we do have the most athletes, if I’m not mistaken. And we take sports very seriously.
I saw that India only sent 29 Olympians. Out of 1.4 BILLION people. We sent 600 out of like 330 million lol America doesn’t **** around |

This is strictly a function of us having a professional track and swimming infrastructure that the athletes can make enough of a living to focus on being the best in the world. I haven't paid attention. Is Russia banned from these Olympics? The last one they got caught cheating but still competed, much like China did this year, but I haven't seen any Russian athletes. Or are they boycotting because of the war? |

Then the IOC banned them (and Belarus) from the 2024 Olympics due to their involvement in the war in Ukraine. Those ****ers just can’t act right. |

Canada advances to the knockout despite FIFA stripping them of 6 points. Beautiful.

Why did they make the pool only 7 ft deep?
Swimmers in the know, please explain. The US training one and trial one is at least 11 if not 12.

So I gotta say, I love listening to Rowdy Gaines. Dude is absolutely prepared, knows the races, knows the racers, and loves the sport.
He's not the most polished analyst, but he's damn good. Overall most of the NBC talent is pretty good. |

I caught the tail end of the Brazil vs Japan women’s beach volleyball match. I was SORELY disappointed in the talent of the Brazilian squad.
Then they won and the camera panned to a group of Brazilians celebrating in the stands, including two of the hottest women I’ve ever seen lol Never change, Brazil. |

Sounds like the Seine was less than ok for the triathlon.
"Jolien Vermeylen, representing Belgium at this year’s Games, said she felt debris in the water during her 1500-meter swim through the iconic French river at the beginning of the Women’s Triathlon on Wednesday............" “While swimming under the bridge, I felt and saw things that we shouldn’t think about too much,” she told Flemish TV channel VTM, according to Metro." https://nypost.com/2024/08/01/sports...er-after-race/ |
