This year it backfired right into his face. But there's deeper problems on the team than just WR. Penalties, lining up wrong, playcalls coming in late etc. People always blame Nagy or Bieniemy when shit goes wrong but Andy is the HC. He needs to own this mess and fix it

Bottom of the barrel. So bad that it makes our tackles, QB, and play calling all look worse.

All the whining about "veteran WRs" doesn't compute with me. Are MVS and Justin Watson not in their 6th seasons? Is Richie James not in his 5th? Toney is in his 3rd and should get it by now.
We can argue about the talent levels, but not the lack of a veteran presence. This is not a team full of rookies that Veach relied on. MVS being complete and utter shit, even in comparison to last year, is a disappointment. Toney not stepping up is a disappointment. James getting injured and then the coaching staff not using him is a disappointment. Skyy not developing further is a disappointment. We brought Hardman back and he gets injured. So, we can shit on Veach for maybe not addressing the talent level adequately but that's about it. You still need to bank somewhat on growth and it didn't happen. Instead we've had regression and sloppy ****ing play. That, in my opinion, lies as much on coaching as it does anything. You lost a guy that preached accountability and you have a newbie WR coach that has a lesser NFL tenure than half the position group. There might be more whining this offseason if Veach doesn't add everyone's favorite big-time vet. He likely won't. He has to worry about the DT group and LT on top of it. |

Our vets don't check those boxes and never really did. That's why JuJu was not replaced. They didn't keep guys on the field that Mahomes could trust and the pressure on our QB finally broke even Mahomes yesterday. Look at what the Ravens collected where guys they barely throw to or are sitting on their bench would be all upgrades and playing here. Duvernay> MVS Agholor > Skyy Moore etc Then throw in they have the top end guys too and its laughable what we have in comparison. This offseason the goal should not be to tread water but stack weapons and guys that belong on an NFL field in the WR room.

There are veterans that bring something to the table, and then there's vets that don't. MVS is a limited role player that might be washed. JWat is a glorified ST player. Neither, despite 6 years in the NFL actually bring any veteran presence or experience, because they're not accomplished in any way. They can barely run paper routes, and their reception rate is a dismal 50%. Who could possibly look up to or learn anything from those two? James is in his first season with KC, so brings no experience in this offense, and came from a fairly dysfunctional organization, so again no real veteran experience other than collecting a check every week. Toney . . . well, if you think Toney somehow brings any positive veteran experience, go ahead. That's not what I'm seeing from him. And Veach isn't going to add a top-tier vet WR, because as you say, we need to go LT hunting yet again and we need to shore up the DL. It'll be another JAG type guy for bargain $$$. I only hope whoever it turns out to be, will be better than JuJu.

Plenty of teams are mortgaging their future years to try and win now. Mahomes is just so good I would rather the front office leaned towards doing "too little" rather than borrowing too much from the future to win now |

I liked the James signing but it was a value signing at 1 million and his injuries never got him on the field. Could he have been helpful if didn't get hurt? Probably. But they need to add minimum 2 vets they can count on and 2 draft picks to remake this current setup. Hell, I saw Slayton from the Giants catch a pass from Tyrod Taylor and would have loved to have him at 5 million over a MVS any day. Assuming 3 starting spots with Rice as one of them that's two more starters that can play in a NFL top 3 role.

We have Ferrell under contract at DT next year. That's it. Wanya Morris doesn't give me great vibes as a capable long-term option at LT. Maybe a swing reserve or a really good OG. You're also losing two starting LBs and one of the best CBs in the game. There's alot more pieces to the puzzle than stacking talent at WR. Should it be a priority? Absolutely. It has to be. But you still need two DTs of starting quality, a LB, and probably a LT. It can be done with the 46-ish million Veach will have, but he's going to have to be very calculated. This is a key offseason that will set the next few years in motion. |
