I posted a pic earlier in the thread. Very large 2 year old buck. I stepped out of my ground blind to leave for the day and saw this guy. He was about 40 yards out and had no idea I was there. because of the super tall grass I was able to be there without him knowing. He jumped the string a bit but I hit his femoral artery as he stepped forward. Died in less than 10 minutes about 10 yards from when I shot him.

Hunted for the last 5 days in North Central Kansas. I bagged out with one buck and one button buck which I thought was a doe. No visible antlers. All in all, my group got 6 deer, 5 bucks and a doe by Sunday midday. This pic was taken second day.
Buck fever baby.....

Gonna make a move on selling a few Rifles. All they do is look nice in the safe and I can find some other guns to buy. .280, 300 Win Mag, and a 7mm STW.
Had two new bucks show up on camera this weekend, may have to hit the bow stand a couple afternoons this week.

It's almost that time again. Took this yesterday while out doing some scouting. Lone strutter with 16 hens. It's a crappy cell phone pic but you get the jest. This area is one I've hunted for years and this is the first year it has been designated non-toxic shot only.

Heading to South Carolina then on to Florida for my Osceola hunt and wrap up my Grand Slam. Birds around home in MO are starting to gobble hard

I posted this in the Lets Talk Guns thread, but it's probably suited for here as well:
OK, need some advice. I just bought my first AR, DPMS Oracle. I would like to take it hunting this fall. But the more I read about the pros and cons of deer hunting with this rifle, the more confused I'm getting. It seems there are those who say don't do it (too light of a round, better off with a .30\.30, which I shoot now) and those who say do it (accurate shot, flat trajectory etc.) I've been looking at ammo, and Hornady makes an American Whitetail in 60 grain. I shoot 170 grain in my .30\.30, so obviously a MUCH lighter round. Whatchoothink? EDIT- it's chambered for 223 and 556. I'm told the .223 is better because you can get hunting rounds for it.

It'd be a decent antelope rifle though. |
