I've got to drive to kansas or western ok to hunt. I'm ready to get after I though it will be my first bird hunt in 4 years.
Congrats man. That's what it's all about. And thank you for doing it the right way. My Brittany's are 13, 6 and 1. Grandma, mom and daughter.
Between my dad and I, we've had the same bloodline going since 1972. The Pedigree can actually be traced back to the 1880's.
Best bird dogs I've ever seen. Minimal training in the field and they're great with kids.
I'm happy for you and your kiddo. I can't wait to take my boy, (Hunter) in a few years.

My little ones only 1.5 but I can't wait. I'm considering buying another Brittany. I've got my 3.5 year old American make and a 2 year old French female but she turned out to be the runt (and she's my wife's) thinking about buying another American female now that my grandpas dog is getting on up in years.

Side note: do you guys know if my oklahoma hunter safety card is valid in Missouri?

Anywho... The good news is the cover in NE is thicker than I've ever seen it which has caused a huge increase in bird population. I saw at least 30 huge roosters yesterday and 20 hens. I have a self imposed limit of two birds per trip, as does my dad.
He and I got our four in just a few hours.
The bad news is said increase has caused the douchebags to come out in force. They line up, (with no dogs) and walk a field. Usually I see 7-10 assholes doing this and they shoot at everything wether it's in range or not. One douche threw out three rounds at a bird in under 2 seconds, missing all three since the bird was 60+ yards away.
I can't stand it when these unethical ****sticks do this. This practice should be illegal. And then they have the gall to yell at me for hunting a tree-line with my dogs that evidently they were planning on "hunting."

They actually yelled that we cut them off. ****, I was there first, go **** yourself.

I'm hunting private land from now on.
Do hunt on private land. But that doesn't always keep the one who sucks the peniss out. We put up no hunting signs every year, but dad hasn't ever denied anyone permission that went to the trouble of looking at a platte map or asking someone who owns the property.

Anyway. We had bagged up some corn at the edge of a field it basically looked like a 10,000 bushel plastic silo laying on the ground. Anyway, opening day comes and te next day dad went to check the well and called me and told me to hook up the unloaded and make sure the tires on te truck are up and to fuel up this other POS truck we never use because the Corn is coming out right now.

Turns out some mother****ers didn't appreciate the no hunting sign and piled all their beer cans at the signs and cut a big ass hole in the bag. Didn't spill much but ripped it open and caused the bottom to push out because of the weight. Annnnnd there was snow in the forecast. We ended up pretty unscathed but the purpose of storing grain isn't to haul it out in a big ass hurry on openin weekend.

Mother****ers.

They're fine dogs, the neighbors run them, I've just never owned one. I do have some Shih Tzus though.

After several years of not having a pointer of any kind I rescued a female GSP who's idiot owner had her on death's door step. It took over a year of tlc and confidence building before she put some muscle back on and started turning into just what I wanted, something slow and close. She still doesn't work with the labs all that well, but I'm looking forward to getting her out to let her find a few quail this season.

We no longer pile hay near the road for similar reasons. A few years ago 3 different farmers had rows of hay lit on fire after declining to give a group of guys permission to hunt.

Love hearing a rescue story for a good dog. That's how we got our first Brittany when I was a kid. Rescued her ended up buying another. As a family we've rescued two brittanies and a English springer. In the last 5 years.

I have been in a tree when I can. Hadn't seen much of anything but squirrels. Tonight 3 decent bucks came through but no shooters. Waiting for a couple from cams to show up.

I'm a n00b hunter this year. Going out the weekend after Thanksgiving. Why were the Bucks you saw not "shooters"?

Since you're new to the sport, you'll probably want to take any good buck that comes along. A six or eight pointer, etc.
Guys like Iowanian and I have been hunting for quite some time. (30 years here)
We're looking for that monster 7x7 or larger, (aka wall-hangers). I finally got my monster buck last year. He was a 13 pointer, 7x6 and weighed in at nearly 250. I've been sitting in trees for years waiting for a buck like that.

Edit: Do me a favor and don't turn into one of those douchebags that shoots from their car or doesn't give two shits about ethics.
Only pull the trigger if you're sure.
If you wound one, track it until you get it.
Ok... I'm off the soap box now.
