Okay, here is a place for the Golfers to talk about tournaments, clubs, swing help or thoughts.

Today is the Players Championship, which I think ought to be the 5th Major. Largest pot in the PGA. The daunting 17th, which seems to bring excitement every year. At least we will get to see Sergio blow up yet again.

I am ready to see some water balls!

Are Hippo's any good? I've never heard of them before.

I'm assuming Sports Authority has more selection in store than online. Are there any other sets anyone recommends that may not appear on the SA website, but are around $300? Nothing against Hamas, but anyone else's opinions are welcomed too (thanks Hamas).

Ian Woosnam and John Daly both used to be contracted pros who played Hippo equipment on the tour. It's not Titleist, Ping, or Callaway, but it's not like you are playing with hickory shafted niblicks either.

LUTZ, Fla. - One day after she was plunked on the head by Bill Murray’s wayward tee shot, Gayle DiMaggio had a request: a signed copy of his movie “Caddyshack.”

The actor, meanwhile, was back on the course Saturday for the second round of the Outback Pro-Am. And the course marshals took no chances: They wore hard hats.

DiMaggio lives on the course where Murray hooked his shot far to the left of the No. 9 hole at TPC Tampa Bay. She was hit on the left temple Friday as she stood in her backyard to watch the first round. She never lost consciousness but needed stitches at a hospital.

Well since you have to buy at the store, and the limit of 300, your options are limited. Seems the only set under 300 is the Hippos, which I think is a waist of money. I would probably go with Wilson full sets (comes with everything) over the Hippo.

Really though, they have a good price on the R7's, if it were me I would pay the extra and get the good set, and you'll be set for a long time.

That's what I'm starting to think as well. I can save a few bucks and get Hippos or spend a few more and get some nice clubs.

What's your opinion of the draw aspect of the R7s?

Great for the recreational golfer.

IMO I would definitely get the better set.

Day 1 of the 'Hamas' Jenkins Project

So, I finally decided to say "**** it" and completely retool my swing. I feel like I'm stagnating with the current swing that I have, which is very vertical, and very steep. I'm way too flippy with my hands, and I cannot consistently groove a swing that works for all clubs. It's either short irons, mid irons, or woods, and never more than 2/3 working at once.

In the past I used to push my arms almost straight back and then raise them as I completed my shoulder turn. This led to a huge and deep shoulder turn, but got me way too far outside of my right foot. This combined with the inconsitency in keeping the flex in my right knee made me a very inconsistent ball striker. My swing speed tops out at about 103, which given my flexibility (I can move my legs behind my head and touch my wrists rather than just my fingers to the ground when I touch my toes) and core rotation is just lack luster.

So, after reading the musings of what appears to be a very well respected pro on Golf WRX by the handle of slicefixer, I've decided to move to a modern rotary swing (Jim Hardy would call it a one plane swing). Today I went to the course and worked exclusively on his version of the 9-3 drill, which involves turning your core and hips until the club is waist high, allowing the wrists to set, and then turning through the shot while maintaining the angle of your right wrist (no scooping) and letting your body, rather than your arms, release the club.

I hit 72 straight shots like this with a sand wedge. Most of the early ones leaked way right, several were on the center of the face but fat, many were heeled, and four were out and out s****s. I did hit a few solid, and was surprised how different it feels to truly compress the ball against the turf. It's almost like the ball hits back at you a little bit. The biggest problem is that I wasn't turning away from the ball enough (too much arms) and my arms got caught behind me on the through motion (which led to the heel shots), but my balance did feel markedly better, and for session 1, I'd say it was reasonably productive.

I'm going to do nothing but this drill for the next several weeks to really ingrain the swing changes.

Our club pro gave me my first ever lesson this morning before work.

I was losing power because I was pushing through the ball with my right side instead of pulling through the ball with my left. After about 25 swings, I noticed a 15 yard increase in all of my irons.

I also found out that my clubs have to whippy of a shaft. I already have stiff shafts, but I'm losing distance/power because they give too much.

Been swinging a Taylormade R7 Quad driver for several years now and loved it until last week. Hit a friend's Cleveland Hibore XL and outdrove my R7 by 20 yards easy. Looked at ebay and snagged a Hibore XLS for $67. Got the club yesterday, opened the package to realize that it wasn't used like I thought - BRAND NEW! (Can't believe the guy didn't put NEW anywhere in the auction - though he listed 18 of them to end within less than 10 seconds from each other, causing them to sell for less than half of what used Hibores had been selling for at the start of the weekend so I shouldn't be surprised).

Took it out this morning. It's hitting straight and really, really long. Laid into one drive and put it less than 10 yards off the front of a 325 yard green. Yesterday I took it to the driving range and on wet ground was bouncing balls past the 300 sign.

I'm happy with it!

Good luck with that! Sounds like you are going it alone? I'm afraid to make a major swing change without guidance - I just can't feel what I'm doing well enough to know if I'm doing it correctly.

I actually read up on slicefixer's swing last summer, but found I didn't quite understand the drills well enough to do them on my own, specifically the 9-to-3. It seems like one of those drills that you could think you're doing right, but be doing very wrong, and just screw yourself up more. I was never able to find an explanation that really clicked for me on that one, though admittedly, I didn't look all that hard. Making a major swing change is a huge commitment, and takes a lot of patience - hope it works out for you.

I'm working on setting up some lessons for myself to try and improve my ball striking. I have a similar problem with flippy hands/wrists, and haven't been able to get over that on my own. Put up an 84 yesterday, which is great (for me) for my first full round this season, but my iron play pretty much sucked - need to get that fixed...
