High risk and high reward, and the Royals should absolutely get credit for embracing this approach. But you'll excuse me for not forgiving Glass for gross negligence for approximately 15 years. Currently, he's providing a bare-bones amount that the club can succeed, and this is why DM is the primary culprit for poor moves. Remember, all of this started as my response to a post that essentially said that KC should "show Glass how much we care." Yeah, **** that. The fact that we're still talking about a franchise that was a literal corpse for over a decade is proof enough. Anyway, back to the great turnaround of '13... |

If the Glasses really wanted to make a statement, they would tell Dayton Moore that they'll pick up the rest of Cliff Lee's salary and approve a post-waiver deal to make a massive statement that they give a shit.
Lee, Shields, Santana, Guthrie, and bring up Duffy. Damn. But seriously, I'm just enjoying this run. |

The bad players we spend money on have literally been the worst in baseball.

More power, better on base percentage. Easily a wash if not the edge to Kottaras. And Im sure we can all agree Salvy has outperformed based on batting avg. Like Escobar, I fully expect him to regress in batting avg. There is no way Perez is a career .300 as hes showed so far. I wpuld bet any amt of money on that. And just because Perez is big doesnt mean hes a power hitter cuz hes not and his plate approach doesnt suit a power hitter.

So he would be worse than Moose if you translate that to MLB. Colon is a lost cause. He will be up here someday but hes always going to suck.

Moose has been a productive player for the last month and a half. Hosmer is our best hitter. Lough has done a nice job improving RF both offensively and defensively. Tejada has been a huge upgrade at 2B.
I'd like to see Escobar figure out what's going on. He doesn't need to be a good hitter, but he shouldn't be this bad. Gordon has the look of a guy about to break out of his slump. We can't keep winning without his bat. The same goes for Butler. He's the real mystery. Earlier on, people defended him because he was being pitched around. Now that we are hitting around him, he's out of excuses. It's not like he's been terrible, but he needs to be a lot better. Frankly, if he isn't down 20+ pounds next Spring, I would shop him. Our team is loaded with guys who are in outstanding physical condition. If he can't put in the work, we need to find someone who will...and I'm one of his bigger defenders.

Making a move for Lee would certainly be a major, major statement, but the Phillies seem to still be trying to win with this core group of guys (or they wouldn't be talking extension with Utley), so who knows what they're actually doing with Lee.
With this defense behind him, Lee would be pretty sick. I don't think I'd call Colon a lost cause... but that doesn't mean I expect much out of him. There have been a lot of rumors last year and this year about his work ethic slipping, which is a weird thing to hear on a kid like that (who was supposedly a makeup/leader type). It's possible he has rededicated himself to baseball and is back on track. He had a fairly promising season with the bat last year, though his season was abbreviated. We'll see how he closes the season. He's been pretty great since July 1. .325/.396/.475. It's not inconceivable something has clicked. It's likely he's just "hot." Just for fun... everybody's favorite 2B prospect Kolten Wong is .247/.336/.433. Small sample sizes can be deceiving, but Colon is at least worth watching again.
