With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Firing Seitz would be pretty stupid. I think he's a decent hitting coach, was schooled by Charlie Lau, and is a link to Royals past when they were actually relevant. He had mixed results this year:

Good:
Butler .313, Perez .301, Gordon .294, Esky .293.

Not So Good:
Moose .242, Pena .236, Frenchy .235, Hosmer .232.
Those last two really hurt. Really really hurt.

Maybe that was enough to kick it.

Seitzer did his job better than Yost,pitching coach or the 3rd base coach.

Great news, Seitzer is God awful and was awful in his previous stint in Arizona too. His defensive approach may have worked in the 80's but we've invested too much in our power prospects to have them focusing on an opposite field, contact over power approach.

The Royals fired hitting coach Kevin Seitzer on Thursday after four seasons with the club.

The Royals finished with a team batting average of .265 in 2012, down from .275 in 2011. Eric Hosmer also saw his production drop in his second big-league season, hitting .232 with 14 homers and 60 RBIs after batting .293 with 19 homers and 78 RBIs his rookie season.

hosmer looked good his 1st year with seitzer

esky improved a ton under him
gordon and butler got better too imo
Frenchy doesn't count
Moose has stuggled from day 1

whatever ... i would just figure they would have bigger issues



I will look forward to Moose and hosmer both being 30/30/.300 guys under a better coaching next year then.

The fact that the Star begins their evaluation of the team's hitting performance with batting average says all that needs to be said about their value in reporting Royals news.

Seitz was all class coming on with Petro after the press conference. Sounds like a shift in philosophies, Ned wants more power numbers which is ironic since he gives away a shit ton of outs.
