2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread
2012 Slogan: Our Time
A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year (from Great Expectations) An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division (from alnorth) With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore. We do not have starting pitching. Oh yeah, we've also got this: ![]() Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us. Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here. What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that: Quote:

No. And neither team would even think about it.

No. He has too many innings and years under his belt already for a guy his age. The Mariners work him to death much like we did with Meche. I know he is a horse and pitching a lot of innings is awesome but I would be afraid how long he keeps up his starting 34 games a year. Myers could be a Pujols type impact hitter. You can't give that up for a once every five day pitcher IMO.

And it's Wil.

Seriously. The royals would be stupid to refuse such an offer and the mariners even more stupid for offering it.

I think most people just don't want to lose a potential talent like Will Myers. I'd do the trade in a heartbeat. So what if we lose a potential perenial all-star? Elite pitching is boarder-line impossible to find.
Only reason I'm fine with the Greinke trade is because we got MULTIPLE prospects with all-star potential. |

King felix is in the running for greatest pitcher of all time and you wouldn't trade a single position player prospect for him when you would have two years of below market control with which to negotiate an extension?

I'd rather give them Bubba, but to make a run, the Royals need a major move like this. Most of the pieces are in place

I am starting to hate Wil Meyers. I am just sick of his name and the BS that surrounds him. I don't care if he is Rocky Calivito JR at this point.

Greatest pitcher of all time? Off the top of my head I can think of 5 pitchers in the game right now that are better or at least equal. Verlander, Weaver, Halladay, Kershaw, Price.

I was curious to see how Felix compared to some of the other top pitchers in the game right now. Obviously he is really good in his own right but I have always thought he is a little overrated and fails to be great. IMO to be great means you are consistent. Sure he has games where he pitches really good which drives down his numbers, but he has too many stinkers to be considered a great pitcher.
So looking at starts over the course of this season, in 25 starts Hernandez has given up 4 runs or more 8 times. That is 32% of his starts that are not quality starts. As a comparison here is a list of some of the other top AL pitchers. Weaver - 3 times in 21 starts for 14% Verlander - 7 times in 24 starts for 29% Price - 3 times in 23 starts for 13% Sale - 3 times in 21 starts for 14% Harrison - 6 times in 23 starts for 26% Peavey - 5 times in 23 starts for 22% Kuroda - 6 times in 24 starts for 25% All of these pitchers are more consistent than Hernandez in giving you quality starts and keeping the team in a good position to win. There could be more but you get the idea. I also want to be clear I am not trying to knock the guy or diminish how good he is, I am just trying to say he is not the end all be all for pitchers. |
