With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

The entire Myers debacle is still do amazingly absurd to me...there is just simply no reason why he nor Odorizzi shouldn't be up right this second.

I remember saying on here a while back that any other GM would be finding any way possible to get him up but our GM is finding any way not to.

This mess is just as much of an indictment of DM as anything...truly ridiculous...

It's frustrating because last year they didn't hesitate to bring Hosmer and Moose up and they weren't raking like Myers. Now that it's OUR TIME though we have to go back to being ultra-conservative morons again. Why don't they just announce they don't think they'll be able to sign him once he's not under team control anymore? That's basically what they're saying.

One more depressing thought that I had:

DM has gone on recording saying that 2014 is the magical year to be competitive. OK. Fine. But who the hell would want to sign here this off-season when the GM has, in some ways, already raised the flag on 2013?

Answer: Tons of money. Something has to compensate for an otherwise worthless year of your career.

Alternatively: You don't have other options, so you're forced to sign with the Royals, so you probably suck.

Some could say the "Our Time" bullshit was re: the All Star game.

I've not seen one of those commercials since.

I've heard that too and if that's really the case.... well....

Whether it is the case or not though they'd be damn fools to keep running the ads when they're 15-20 games under .500.

The Royals started the year running promotions for the Buck O'Neil seat featuring Frank White. Took a couple of weeks to pull it.

Anyone read the Star story about how the Royals are now positioning their outfielders deeper to stop extra base hits?

Apparently, that's the official line for Sisson's firing. Yost ordered the change and Sisson presumably didn't comply to Yost's satisfaction.

I wrote about this on my blog---I think Glass lit up both Moore and Yost after the stadium funding story came out. That's when all these odd proclamations from Yost started to come out.

I think the whole Myers thing is somewhat related.

The only way the Royals get out of Francoeur's contract is if he hits a hot streak late in the season. Otherwise, the Royals are looking at eating a big portion of Francoeur's contract, and a very pissed off David Glass.

I think you will see Myers in May of next year. Service time will be maxed out and most of Frenchy's salary will have been paid.
