With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Guthrie trade went down as I was typing my last post (which got delayed by a meeting with my boss)...

He's been a pretty solid pitcher away from Coors... but control guys who don't strike hitters out (or have extreme power sinkers) are going to struggle in Denver.

I don't think he's a lifesaver by any means, but it is someone who can fill some starts and innings this year.

And if he pitches really well for KC... you try to bring him back cheap.

Only way this bothers me is if Moore points to this as his move to "Acquirie a pitcher," which I doubt...

Agree with all of this. Moore has to believe this was a dump of Sanchez and getting anything useful is gravy. If this guy turns out to be a decent pitcher you can bring back next season as, say, your #4 starter.....great. But still understand we need two more guys. Maybe Guthrie holds down the fort next season on a 1 yr deal while Lamb/Duffy/Paulino recover.

Yeah I am shocked we got anything useful at all for Sanchez considering he was DFA. A starting pitcher no less.

Here is a thought: were we still running him out there because we knew the Rockies might be interested and wanted to see him?

I think if we can trade Gio, it might be for the better. Falu is a far better utility player defensively.

I ran his season numbers away from Coors and he has a 3.67 ERA with a 1.51 WHIP and his given up 7 HRS

I will take my chances trading with Brian Sabean any day.

He tends to give up A LOT for midseason acquisitions (See Wheeler for Beltran a year ago) and his trade history - Sanchez for Cabrera aside - is very spotty.

Broxton + Gio... not sure what that would rate. But it's a chance to get some real value for Gio (who looks very much like a QUAD A player).

looks like on the year around 5 per game, not great. His last five were 3,5,5,7,7. He had one stinker that he gave up 7ER in 3.1 against AZ.

Are those last 5 games all road games? Either way if you look at the last four 6 IP per game is an upgrade.
