A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

Yea travel wise if KU moves there really is no conference where it won't be...holy shit this travel is crazy. B12 is the only major conference where it isn't nutty.

KC gets completely fucked in realignment. We will be on the edge in any other conference, and never again host a basketball tournament or football championship unless it is something like the Mo Valley.

My preference would be for KU, KSU, Mizzou, and ISU to join the Big 10 to push that conference to 16 teams. 16 teams from Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconson, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pensylvania with some good rivalries already in place, and some potential great new ones that could easily be formed.

That's my hope.

It is a shame Missouri State hasn't made football a priority at all. If they had a non shit team and a D-1 stadium they could be poised to make an interesting move in all of this.

Possibly. I guess I have a narrow knowledge of all of that. It just seems like they would be in a good spot. They have as many if not more under grad than Mizzou...a decent basketball team and an interesting recruiting base with KC, STL, Tulsa, Springfield, and Northern Arkansas.

NO shit. It is going to change college athletics... the travel schedule will suck complete ass... but it would be interesting. I guess we shall see how this all shakes out.
