Google music now live

Google's cloud based Music site is live. Supposedly you can upload up to 20,000 of your own songs to play from anywhere. They are supposed to be adding artist support where you can buy songs like iTunes but they are still in negotiation.

Quote:
Listen anywhere, even offline.
You can get to your personal music collection at home or on the go. Listen from the web or any enabled device with the Music app available from Android Market. Not online? No problem. The songs you've recently played will automatically be available offline. You can also select the specific albums, artists and playlists you want to have available when you're not connected.

Stay in sync, without the hassle.
Spend more time listening to your music and less time managing it. Once your music is online, it's always available. Playlists are automatically kept in sync, and you don't have to worry about cables, file transfers, or running out of storage space.

Your collection, now in one place.
Upload your personal music collection to a single library, even if it's scattered across multiple computers. You can upload music files from any folder or add your iTunes® library and all of your playlists. And when you add new music to your computer, it can be automatically added to your music collection online.

Mix it up.
Create your own custom playlists with just a few clicks. Or use Instant Mix to automatically build new playlists of songs from your collection that go great together. All the playlists you create and all the changes you make to them are automatically available everywhere your music is.

Having 1000's of your own songs doesn't do much for me. I have how ever many hundreds of thousands of songs that Pandora has and I pay less than the price of 3 CDs per year to get access to all of it. I'm not a huge music guy in the sense that I feel the need to control the order of specific songs to meet a mood or something like that. Primarily I listen all day to keep the noise in the office from distracting me.
I use Pandora at work as well and it's a great way to discover music but it doesn't even compare to a cloud music library, IMO. To each their own.

I'd probably pay for Pandora if I didn't have a song skip limit. You should look into the Zune music service. I think you pay $15/mo and have unlimited access to all the music in the world.

If you do the pay service the skip limit is much more bearable. It's 6 songs per station per hour. I almost never hit the limit and when I do I just switch stations.

It's 6 an hour with the free one as well, you just have to listen to commercials from time to time.

You get 6 per hour. I get 6 per hour per station. I can skip 6 straight songs, jump to a new station and do it again, then again. I do think there's an overall per hour limit but I've never reached it.

I wore Razorblade Suitcase out last week -- good grunge blast from the past.

I think it's 6 per hour per station for the free version too, the only difference between the services being the advertisements.

Ah, that's new. I've been paying for a year and a half now. I should probably have checked before I opened my mouth and looked stupid.

Yeah, Pandora is awesome because it's like a radio station that caters to your tastes and lets you skip songs you might not like. You're SOL, however, if you really want to hear a certain song you randomly thought of.

The ability to throw all your music from iTunes is interesting... I think it's a little bizarre that syncing via USB is deemed an inconvenience these days... I assume that's supposed to steal some iPhone users away, but when syncing an iPhone also charges the thing, which is required at least every two days, it doesn't seem like much of a hassle. Especially when USB syncing doesn't require you to do anything except plug the thing in.

Still, it's interesting tech, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it to see how it develops. It's not enough to convince me to not go with the iPhone 5 when my contract expires, but it's a step in the right direction.

You'd be surprised. My wife has never synched her iphone on her own (nor has her mom or my mom). I have to sync them for them. It's crazy. They act like it's some intimidating process.
