Big 10 Report: Conference Realignment
A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

The Cyclones have an athletic tradition worth keeping. Unfortunately the dollar is running all of this and at this point what can you do?
Its kind of funny because all around in all athletcs together Iowa State is one of the top schools in the nation. But they aren't really great at anything outside wrestling, and football is the main thing driving the new conferences.. so they are pretty much dicked unless some of the conferences realize Iowa State is on the rise... or if they want to add a lower school or two just to keep a balance.

FWIW, the board I run has a 3.5k post thread that has some great information. Much better than this thread. A couple of the guys have gotten Orangebloods premium subscriptions to follow this.

There is NOBODY in the Big 10 on the level of Texas or Oklahoma. And winning establishes that "brand" thing that you don't seem to understand, either. Allow me to explain.

"Brand" comes from winning in something, at some point, for a long time. Brand sticks in the minds of the masses. You keep Brand forever, whether you continue to win or not (see Michigan, Notre Dame). Brand is 100 million Joe Nobodies who instantly associate Nebraska with winning football and turn on the TV. Brand is 100 million Joe Nobodies who instantly associate Kansas with winning basketball and turn on the TV. The key word is "winning." Brand tells people who don't know any better (and when it comes to Kansas and Nebraska, that's pretty much everybody) "Hey, I've heard of them! They're good! They win! I want to watch them." Brand is a trump card. Brand allowed a nothing school from a nothing state that hasn't been a player on a national stage for over a decade to blow us out of the water and snake our Big 10 invite. Brand allowed Kansas to snake our Orange Bowl bid two weeks after we beat them on the field.

Missouri's Brand is shit right now. Our Brand is complainer, troublemaker, and worst of all, chump. You can crawl in bed with Alden and put on your pom-poms and talk about playing with Texas and Oklahoma with honor and being legit, but that won't save us. We need a fresh start in a competitive conference and competent management, or things will never improve for us.

Thats my first option after keeping the Big12 in tact. And thats only if we can add someone like Utah, Cincinatie, Notre Dame, or someone along those lines... but that doesn't seem as realistic.
