A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

OSU, OU, Texas, and Tech are "locked and loaded" to go to the Pac 10, but aTm is on the fence. They are highly tempted to go to the SEC instead. (get out of UT's shadow, selling point in-state "we're the SEC school, come be an Aggie!")

Rumors saying if the Pac 10 doesn't get aTm, then they may invite either Utah or Kansas to be #16.

Haven't you learned a thing? We are both fairly irrelevant. We are a bargaining chip, not a dealer. You take what you can get when this shit happens.

I'm thinking i'll enjoy myself, and K-State athletics quite a bit more if we are in a conference like the Mountain West.

They built a basketball power even though their perception isn't much better than a mid-major. Same with the football program in the 90's.

Thanks man. What about KU? I really don't see them going to the Mountain West. You think they'll join the ACC and create a power confrence for basketball?

I've been saying all along that KU is at the mercy of others and I completely understand why. That's why I'm hoping the BEAST or PAC10 thing happens. I think the most realistic chance our schools have right now is the Big East, but apparently you'd rather want MWC so you can go to Vegas. I'm saying you should hope for the Big East as well, you can always resign to the fact that you're a mid-major once (or if) it happens.
