Rumor: Browns discussing trade for Dak Prescott

FWIW, some guy named Bruce Dennan says he has sources in the Browns organization and they are discussing a blockbuster trade for Dak. I have idea who Dennan is or if this rumor is even true, but it's the offseason, it's the Browns, and it's fun to discuss. I would imagine that the 2nd overall pick plus a few more first rounders would go back to Dallas...this would be the smartest thing Jerry has ever done. ANd of course the Cowboys would take Shedeur.

This is odd, or maybe not so much, considering the Browns are the one team who reportedly like Sanders in the interview process. My guess is that he doesn’t feel the same love for the Browns, and obviously has ties to the Cowboys, so in that context I guess this is the best case scenario for him. DAL could also be influenced by Jeanty recently being projected to go ahead of their #12 pick.

Maybe. Or maybe Baker wouldn't have the success in Cleveland that he had in Tampa Bay.

Even Mahomes wouldn't win any Super Bowls playing in Chicago or Cleveland had they drafted him.

We'll never really know, of course. However, there's no debating that while baker was QB1 for CLE he put up better stats and won more playoff games than any Browns QB since he left, and it's not close.

And he took CLE to the playoffs and beat their arch-rival PIT with the 22nd ranked defense, without Stefanski (Kevin was at home watching the game in his basement with COVID). And nearly beat KC a week later if not for a great play by Sorensen to separate R. Higgins from the ball at the GL.

At the least, Baker would've been more consistent/stable at the position and would've saved them multiple 1st rd draft picks and a lot of that $230M contract they gave to Watson. Which CLE could've spent on more weapons, their OL, etc. So i'd bet that keeping Baker would've made them a better team. maybe good enough to sneak into the SB.

He is definitely better than Cleveland's other QBs. However, he's had success in Tampa partly because they've surrounded him with better players and partly because their division is a joke. It's a guaranteed playoff spot for Tampa the last few seasons. The AFC North is tough.

Also, Baker's attitude may not be a good match for a franchise that's owned by idiots. I doubt he would want to stay there long-term.

I don’t think it’s remotely disputable that the Browns would have been better at the QB position (and team) if they just kept Baker. It’s not like it’s a high bar. But even with that, for all his limitations Baker plays hard and is just a solid professional QB on and off the field. He was decent on the field as it was for the Browns. He needed a little maturity to grow up so perhaps that was helped by moving around, but his four years there were better than anything they’ve had since.

I think that Baker needed to mature to become what he’s grown into in TB. I think he needed to be humbled a bit to make that happen, like Favre back in the day. So in that one respect CLE did him a favor by trading him. Without that, it might’ve taken Baker several more years before reaching the same maturity level he’s at now.
