Let's Talk About the Eagles (Super Bowl 59 Discussion)

We're headed back to the Ship and will try to be the first team to 3-peat in Super Bowl history!!! Chiefs open up as 1.5 favorites over the Eagles.

Discuss.

We have this conversation frequently with opposing fans in the playoffs, especially Bills fans.

Here are answers (you’re likely to dismiss or ignore).

1. Injuries to key offensive personnel. Brown didn’t play until December, and his skill set was a critical one they couldn’t easily replicate. Star WR Rice blowing out his knee. Rice replacement Smith-Schuster pulling a hamstring in the first quarter of the season. Starting RB breaking his leg week 2.

2. Chiefs doing what they do. This isn’t a team that puts the pedal down in the regular season when it has a team down. They get vanilla. They sit on things for the playoffs. They experiment, and they don’t spam successful things when they don’t need them.

3. The target. KC gets every single team’s best shot every week. That’s what happens when you’re the defending champs. Everyone is UP for you - even if it’s just another week of waiting for the playoffs for KC.

4. Playoff mode. The Chiefs are different in the playoffs. Reid gets into his bag for everything. Mahomes’ legs become a weapon not just on scrambles/broken plays, but by design. They get more aggressive on 4th downs.

As for the general confidence here, of course Chiefs fans are confident. The past seven years are littered with the corpses of #1 overall defenses that got broken by Reid+Mahomes (ask the Bills). And by great RBs and running games that were going to play keep-away from them (ask Derrick Henry). And by hot young QBs coming for the crown (ask Hurts or Burrow or Allen or Jackson).

This Chiefs team is better at WR and RB and the same at QB and OL than the team that put up 31 points against an Eagles team that matched up better against them.

You’ll find out.

The "timing" argument has been thoroughly debunked. Go back to Reddit and find a new talking point.

So what calls specifically are you referring to from these playoffs?

Also, definitely sounds like you think it's "rigged", but sure, you're not a cry baby!

We're a "paper tiger" that's won 9 consecutive playoff games. Including against the Eagles.

Absolutely ****ing hilarious when Eagles fans think they're going to blow the Chiefs out.

Mahomes has been to 5 Super Bowls and also been beaten by more than one score 5 times. In 7 years.

Dude is as likely to make it to this game as he is to get blown out.

When you say that, you just sound like a deflecting coward who is afraid of a close game that you know you wouldn't win.

Normally that’s how it is with this team. Rarely does the other team beat them in the playoffs. Usually they beat themselves more than the other team beating them ala 2021 AFCCG vs Cincy.

I don’t see a lot of “talent” on this Eagles defense man. They aren’t loaded. Jalen Carter and Zack Baun deserve their flowers. They’re above average players. Quinyon is probably their best defender (he’s damn good). DeJean is an up-and comer but he’s young. Solid player but not amazing.

Aside from that these guys are not great. Josh Sweat isn’t some game wrecker, Nolan Smith isn’t either, Oren Burks sucks, Reed Blankenship and CJG are not anything special.

Darius Slay is 34 and gets killed by speed. McLaurin straight up cooked his ass. His INT vs GB was over Wicks who runs a 4.58. Would take shots downfield on him with Hollywood/Worthy.

Fangio deserves credit. He’s very good and has changed the Eagles defense. But this is a whole other animal.

Spread them out. 4 or 5 weapons each. Pick on their CB3, CB4 relentlessly.

Yep.

Guys like Watson and Gray are going to get some targets. They can't cover everybody and if the line holds up, Pat is going to carve them up.

I get a chuckle out of people convincing themselves the Chiefs will blow out every team they play week to week, but that's still not nearly as unrealistic as opponent fans thinking they'll win easily.

Maybe go read the "Let's talk about the Ravens" thread from last season, and they probably had the best case ever for being cocky pieces of shit given their regular season SoS/SoV, H I S T O R I C DVOA, QB Savant Mode, etc.
