I’ll always love Alex Smith
I had forgotten how spectacular he was at times for us.

But hell I get that we’re on a high of winning right now but I don’t know why that was a bad thing. It was like browns fans bitching about baker even though he won them their first playoff game in a million years. Even under Reid there are many many QBs who wouldn’t have gotten us that one playoff win we badly needed to reverse the curse |

I was always opposed to giving up draft picks for another team's cast off quarterback. Something the Chiefs were known for the years after 83. I never had anything personal against Alex; I remember a show where he and Aaron Rodgers did a skills test and it was clear who was the better passer. After seeing various videos where Tyreek was running wide open and Alex wouldn't throw the ball, I really soured on him.
You can't blame people for who they are and he was a good influence on Patrick. Great human being and a QB that puts you in pergatory. |

Alex was great, but his tendencies during a game were predictable and expected by a defense. Pat is on another level, no one knows what’s gonna happen when shit gets real. Not even Andy, that’s why Pat is special and no one compares.

He was the QB when I first started watching. Pinky game and all.
He was a tough SOB. And he wasn't terrible. He would have been a franchise QB but no franchise would stick with him. Three straight teams drafted young stud QB's while he was there. Gun to my head I'm taking Alex over DeBerg but he wasn't the total disaster many describe him as.

I admire the manner in which Alex selflessly mentored Mahomes when he didn’t have to. Solid dude.
But come on. Having him as our QB WHEN we had him as our QB was infuriating. He was so risk averse. Pretty easy to not throw interceptions when you don’t throw the ****ing ball further than 5 yards away max AS LONG AS there aren’t any defenders within 10 feet of the receiver. I hated having him as our QB. We were starved hungry at the time for a QB to lead us to wins and display huge balls in doing so… like Mahomes. The last thing our frustrated fanbase needed at that time was QB Purgatory… and most of us knew that’s exactly what it would end up being… at its best. And the Alexsexuals. Funny how a guy’s fans can love him so much that it makes you in turn like him less! |

Yeah when I heard him say that whole thing about how Alex said he got shitted on as a rookie and said he made sure that Mahomes didn’t receive that same treatment really gave me a different perspective and respect for him.

I just remember that when we drafted Showtime Mahomes I knew we'd turn the corner and make some real progress in the post season. Alex seemed to get rattled in that Shitsburg game and reverted to being check down charlie again and I was over it. Thanks for what you did Alex and thanks for internalizing any hard feelings, but I was sure glad when you went to Washington. |

At the time it was devastating. In hindsight, I’ll chalk it up as an Andy Reid ‘lessons learned’ experience.

Love him? It's hard to bury that I loathed him at the time due to his significant limitations.
Respect him in retrospect? Yes. He was a solid bridge to better things. He allowed KC to build up from the ashes and put a foundation in place that would later serve Patrick well while avoiding the mistake of drafting atrocious QBs in the 2013-2015 drafts that could have set this franchise back decades again. |
