OLED TV Prices Continue to Fall

65 inch Samsung OLED at Best Buy for $1000:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung...?skuId=6536964

65 inches is on the small side (that's what she said), but that's a good deal. I'm sure larger models will follow suit before long.

Learned something in this thread, interesting, thank you.

I hadn't paid much attention to QLED and OLED prior to this thread, but it motivated me to google the difference.

Recently I upgraded the Mrs. TV to a 65" Samsung for $398 at Walmart. A month later it was down to $349.
She really enjoys it but I can't get into it. It's hard to explain but I prefer the picture on my 10 year old 55" Philips.

Neither of them compare with the picture of our old 50 in Plasma Philips I bought 20 years ago IMO but it was $6000.

So I guess the OLED is worth paying about double the price of the QLED sets? Is their picture comparable or better than the plasma sets were?

Hemi to me it boils down to two issues. How bright is the room? How important are black levels. If your room is bright and has a lot of items for reflection, LED might be better. I personally cannot stand blooming, so LED is out.

IMO OLED blows plasma out of the water, and if you keep your eyes open you don't have to spend double on OLED vs. QLED.

The TV I bought for $1500 yesterday is back up to $2000 today, and even that isn't a bad price. A quality 120hz QLED set of the same size wouldn't be a whole lot cheaper.

The best time to buy a TV is typically the week of the Super Bowl. I’m ready to go OLED. I want a 77” but the wife wants a 65”. I’m happy size doesn’t matter to her.

Ok, maybe this is the place to ask.

What's the difference, good and bad, of the different "operating systems" or whatever.

Xumo, Amazon, roku, etc

They're all l pretty "meh", I always prefer to use a gaming console to access apps, especially since a controller is way easier to use than a remote control.

I use an Apple TV. So I don’t use the TV operating system. I can highly recommend, especially if you’re already in the Apple ecosystem.

Personally, I'm not fond of proprietary TV OS'. I personally think LG and Vizio are borderline unusable and Sony and Samsung are so tied in with the rest of their ecosystem.

I prefer something I can use on all of my TVs. After using Amazon, Apple, Chromecast, and Roku I settled on Roku for my needs. I like Apple and Google too. I think Amazon's interface is clunky and slow.

Yea, I would agree with this.

I bought one of the last plasma TV's as they were being discontinued for a good price. I thought I was going to have a mancove/theater room but ended up with a living room with large north facing windows.

The picture quality/price was great for the time, but to watch football without horrible reflections meant closing the shades for daytime games.

When buying a new TV a few years ago, I thought any TV would be fine. But after actually looking at them in the store, I was really surprised that some models were just not that bright and showed a lot of reflections.

I wasn't going to pay thousands of dollars to have to watch TV with blinds closed and sports just aren't delivered at that high of quality. At least the NFL isn't.

Sure, 4k Blu ray in a dark room, different story.

I bought a LG C3 OLED this spring and absolutely love it... Football and all sports are spectacular on it.. Upscaling is really good too... I spent a long time looking and comparing OLED and LED and I couldn't be happier with what I chose..

Thank you. At the risk of sounding stupid, aren't both the QLED and OLED LED systems? What do you recommend?

My wife's viewing area does have north facing windows and is pretty bright. I keep my area pretty dark so maybe that is why I don't like watching hers, the brightness in the room.

I think this article would be a good read for you. For me I am 95% certain I’ll go OLED. I have two Panasonic plasmas and am ready to replace them. I scored an awesome deal on an LG OLED but it was 48” and decided to return it. I regret it, but didn’t want to go down from a 50” in my bedroom.

Thanks to those who have answered my question.

The post was hurried, so didn't have a chance to explain.

I currently don't stream., so I know zero about it. Our of my 4 tvs, only one is smart, and that's a roku. I don't have wifi. So I'm literally at ground zero of knowledge about it. I have dish for my cable service.

The main reason I ask, is where we camp we have a community area. It used to have cable and we have a projector, but now will have to stream. I'm looking for the best way multiple people can use it if others aren't around. Just looking for something simple everyone can access and it be simple to use. We would mainly use it for sports, college and NFL football, the world series, or movies.

Guess that would include the OS, roku, xumo, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Probably Roku then. It's pretty self explanatory. Some of the OS are way too complicated for their own good.
