I think a lot of teams see that as a path of least resistance but underestimate how difficult it is to drive the field doing it.

Our defense is just full of sure tacklers. The DBs are incredibly aggressive and physical - they will wrap you up. The LBers are really good laterally and even if you catch the ball, they'll be in immediate pursuit and when they hit you, you stop moving.

Trying to get down the field laterally is a 12-14 play drive waiting to happen and there just aren't many teams that have the requisite precision to do that. They'll drop a pass, commit a penalty, get hit behind the LOS after missing a block - something that will put them behind the sticks. And it'll fall apart.

If Shanahan does that, he needs to be committed to going for it on 4th down anytime he's at the beyond his OWN 40 yard line. Because that's what it will take to win this game that way. And if he wants to go ahead and neuter the downfield ability of Aiyuk and Deebo for us - well go right ahead, bud.

Purdy still outplayed Kermit the Frog this season.
Your dude bounced a pass off a facemask for a game saving completion and threw another across the middle and 3 feet above the recievers head who made a one handed grab or it would have been picked... I watched Purdy at Iowa State, if he gets behind on Sunday, hew will make mistakes. It's who he is...

The secondary is better as well, but that secondary had peak Mathieu, Breeland playing very good ball, Fuller playing really well in a safety role and Ward playing at a high level as well. It was, on balance, an average unit.

But man, the 4th best LBer on this team (Chenal) is better than the best 'backer on that one (probably Wilson). It's truly incredible how far this LBer corps has come in such a short period of time. That's probably the worst LB corps to ever win an NFL championship and now I think we have arguably the best LB crew in the NFL.

So yeah - try to pick on the LBs. Maybe it works - but I kinda doubt it.
The Chiefs defense is going to be so hard for Purdy bc they're good at tackling. Their scheme relies having on running the ball well and getting YAC. That's why we killed Miami. They tried the same system but we stuffed running/cut back lanes and tackled well limiting any YAC.

They're gonna force Brock to win with his arm and hit those tight window throws. They're betting he won't be able to do it.

If Jones starts wrecking shit he might not have a choice and like you said this is probably our best tackling team ever top to bottom and we blow up quick screens better than probably anyone else .some of their downfield stuff will be limited because Spags is going to force little to block and even cmc , cmc in the flat is the one thing I think we will struggle with

Yep, and I thought the Bills executed it as well as any team can and it still came down to needing to score touchdowns every possession... the first problem with the TOP strategy is what you described, and the 2nd problem is while you're limiting the Chiefs' offensive possessions, you're limiting your own, too.... and are you wanting to bet your offense is more efficient than a Mahomes offense?

The Bills had a couple drives where they were constantly getting 2nd and 2s, but besides those drives, they were having to work for it and needed big plays by Allen to keep drives alive.

I've watched Purdy throw timing, college type lobs on deep passes, the kind that our secondary should feast on.
