And I was a real pump-the-breaks guy on Ross during training camp so it's not like I've been fawning over him forever.
Where are his snaps going to come from? He's STILL a sub package only guy and it's going to get worse once Hardman is fully integrated, Watson is back from injury, and Toney is taking his usual snaps.

Toney didn't get many snaps yesterday either. That experiment may be over too.

Yes. The miscue on the whip route was the kind of “get to the edge” run we know we can juice from him. And we saw that he can stretch the ball vertically. I think getting a few very specific targets in only 11 snaps a few days after being re-integrated is a good sign of trust. Again, I’d love to have more guys who get consistent target shares and I can see mecole doing that. His role is still probably a little niche but no doubt he makes us better.

They're still really good. It's ok because now the defense is elite and the offense probably is too.
Agreed.

BTW on Ross and Toney, Ross got more snaps then Toney did. Wonder what is up with Toney.

Not even like I'm insulting him as a player. Plenty of guys in that tier have been respectfully productive here. Robinson and Pringle come to mind, and even Watson probably slots into that group. It's just the unfortunate reality for him that he's playing in a very crowded room AND has a shorter contract due to being a UDFA when the Chiefs picked him up.

They may not come from anywhere. This may be his role on the 2023 Chiefs.

That hardly means he's a lost cause or beyond redemption.

They’re not picking up his 5th year option.

Makes sense to develop other younger, cheaper receivers.

If he's not getting reps/snaps/targets with this group, what leads us to believe he'll get more next year after they potentially add more to the room?

Feel like Toney and Mvs are guys you can interchange based on what the defenses throw at you.

Yeah, that's a part of it too. It'll largely be the same quagmire he finds himself in now.

Rice
Toney
MVS
Moore
Watson

And honestly won't be shocked if Hardman is back on a cheap deal next year as well, unless he explodes during this stretch.

Ross is halfway through a rookie season with a coach and an offense where rookies don't get a lot of snaps right away. He should at least get the full season of deference that Moore got from most people before he gets stamped a JAG on 6 targets

I mean, the leniency Moore got was just wishful thinking by folks waiting for him to take the next step. Same as it is with Rice.

Yeahhhhhhh...this team is REALLY REALLY good guys, and it looks like the AFC is down a tad overall this year. Plus we have the east and the north beating the ever-loving shit out of each other.
